5 speed swap help! No engine crank

I havent been on this site for a while and they booted my log in. Im not a noob but it looks like I am. Ive searched but cant find an answer.

I swapped a 5 speed from a 3.4 97 t4r into an auto 3.4 t4r. I used the engine harness and ECU from the donor 5 speed t4r. Ive re-pinned the body plug for the ECU and everything is hooked up correctly. But when I go to start the engine with the key, the engine wont turn over. What am I missing? Something to do with the old auto shifter harness and some safety interlock that needs to be bypassed?

I also dont have either of the switches on the clutch pedal hooked up since the truck doesnt have the wiring for them.

Any help is greatly appreciated. Im so close to finishing this!

Can someone explain where the park/neutral switch is that needs to be grounded which I think will allow the engine to crank?

Thanks

I think it was part of the old auto engine/trans harness? I used the 5 speed engine/trans harness for my swap.

I didn't swap out any wiring when I converted my Tacoma just jumped the neutral switch, but you will need to find the wires for the clutch switch and jump it or install the switch on the pedal.

The body harness doesnt have any of the clutch switch wiring because it was an auto. Im hoping Doc2012, TheDurk or St Runner chime in here. They did the exact same swap how I did it. Pm'd them too. but thanks for trying :)

I don't own a 3rd gen, but it appears that you have to push the clutch pedal to start the engine and possibly have it in netural as well (may have a netural safety switch), on 4 wheel drive there's a "Clutch Start Cancel" switch on the dash that will enable you to start the engine without pushing the clutch, if you hit this switch you don't have to push in the clutch to start the engine, but once you turn off the engine you will have to either hit the switch again or press the clutch to start the engine because the switch resets to default.

So you not having either the clutch pedal switches or the Clutch Start Cancel switch would seem to be the issue.

"How to start the engine—(a)Before cranking

1. Apply the parking brake firmly.
2. Turn off unnecessary lights and accessories.
3. Manual transmission: Press the
clutch pedal to the floor and shift the
transmission into neutral. Hold the
clutch pedal to the floor until the engine
is started. A starter safety device will
prevent the starter from operating if
the clutch pedal is not fully depressed."

"Clutch start cancel switch
(four-wheel drive models with manual transmission)

To crank the engine without depressing
the clutch pedal, push the switch
with the ignition on.
The switch stays on as long as the ignition
is on. And it will automatically turn off
when the ignition is off.
This switch cancels the clutch start system,
which is designed to keep the starter
motor from operating if the clutch pedal is
not depressed all the way down.
The switch allows the vehicle to be driven
out of difficult situations by cranking the
engine with the clutch engaged.
Never use the switch for normal engine
starting. Be sure to follow the starting procedure
instructed in “How to start the engine”
in Part 3."

Do you have a check engine light on ? Some guys the whole harness swap or repin to eliminate check engine light. I personally repined my harness to accept the manual ecu.

OP check my thread. #3 page. Maybe it will help you out.

This is what i used

I'd say the easy way is to just ground Pin 2 of the Starter Relay or the Black-Red wire that goes to it. One place to do that is in the Left kick panel at Pin 22 of the IG1 splice plug.

See '97 3.4 Starting EWD below:

Thanks TheDurk, youre the man. Do you have a pic or diagram of what the IG1 splice plug looks like? I dont have a FSM.

It sounds like IG1 is the big 26 pin connector with the lever release located on the driver's side kick panel?

Still need help? You definitely need to jump two wires in the body plug behind your glove box.
I swapped my '01, and used everything to make it like it came from the factory a manual.
Both clutch switches and the CSC button on the dash work like they're supposed to.
I have a EWD from a '99 that might be of help.

Yeah I had to go out of town so I haven't tried thedurks suggestion yet. If you know what those wired are, I'd appreciate it. Thanks

Yep. here you go. Page 41. Grey 26 pin with lock bar.

be careful using any info from other years. Toyota changed these circuits a lot. I really need the year of your donee rig. Might be a different wire. I used '97.
