5 Star wheel weight

Just weighed a 5 star wheel at 21.5#, just thought it was intriguing as the 5th gen trail wheels that I was gonna purchase are over 30#. I’ve been looking for a lightweight wheel as the 35” tire that will wrap around it will be heavy and these 3rd gens can use all the help they can get with power.

I couldn’t find many topics talking about stock wheels weights so thought i’d share.

This needs to be a thing. I have no desire to add almost 40 lbs of unsprung weight in wheels alone. Then when you consider the weight difference of a 265/75/16 Street Tire vs a 35 inch mud terrain, you could be looking at over 100 lbs of additional unsprung weight. Doesn't sound like a lot, but that's a 5 percent increase in the unsprung load the truck has to handle just in wheels/tires. F1 teams spend millions to cut a Pound of weight from a single wheel.

Random but useful. I was thinking of swapping wheels to TRD from FJ but they are 29 pounds... so like you I'm sitting on my 3rd gen stars :bounce:

I agree, i really wanted to run a 17” wheel as it opens up a lot more options for 35” tires but i’m not gonna take that much of a weight penalty.

EDIT: I should have just googled it. Looks like they weigh 29-30lbs depending on source.
