50" LED light bar using slagfactory.com gutter mounts

So I got around to mounting up my 50" light bar this weekend. I figured id share some of the install pictures for anyone looking to use these mounts. The mounts come with self tapping screws but I opted to use stainless bots, washers, nylock nuts. I also used a good bit of clear silicone waterproof caulking.

Nice install, looks like you did a good job with the silicone and hopefully it won't ever rust. I'd be too scared personally to start drilling. One of these days if I get a light bar I'll probably just try to make a mount of the factory roof rack first.

Yea I was pretty nervous about drilling through the roof. Once I drilled the first one there was no going back. I'm really happy with how it turned out with the gutter mounts. I have no need for a full length custom roof rack to mount a light bar on.

I'm glad you posted this, you can clearly see in your photo how much metal there actually is there! Plenty enough I'd say for self tappers, although drilling holes and using bolts is always a good peace of mind. Looks great!! :tea:

Self tappers...the silver one is what i would use.

now i see how it installs. i need to find some way to justify another $180 for the brackets and another $500+ for a decent 50" light ... another $700+ needs to be added to the budget

I did it Saturday evening the silicone had about 48hrs to set befor it started raining. I'm going to pull the headliner down this weekend and see if there's any evidence of water getting in. I've been touching the corner of the headliner every morning before work and it doesent seem to be wet.

Functionally speaking, the light looks aimed down too far, causing glare from the hood. You won't be able to see much with all that light coming back hitting you in the face.

this is why i dont plan to get a roof light. Unless its low pro and sucked in, its going to glare like a bastard.

You can aim it any way you please. It's not a set position. You can aim it straight up if you wish.

With my 50" on the roof, theres no position I can aim it where it doesnt hit the hood, and still throws light forward. I made a glare guard to block the light from hitting the windshield, which made a huge difference. The hood reflections arent so bad, its the windshield one that kills.

What kind of guard did yo make? I have been kicking around ideas for how to do it.

Also had noise from it due to the wind blowing across the vents. Used small cuts of foam and inserted them into the cooling vents. Works great.

I took a piece of sheet metal and bent it up on the ends, drilled a hole and bolted it on using the same bolt that mounts the light bar. It basically just hangs a few inches past the bottom of the lightbar and prevents light from going straight down onto the windshield. Its hard to explain. Heres a picture of one similar to mine. Dont have actual pics of my own.

Hmm I might have to try that. I did adjust the bar and the light has been much better off the windshield.
