5100, 5125, or Tokico rear shocks for 2.5 lift?

Reading about shocks here until my eyes started crossing... What is a good, fairly soft shock for 50/50 highway - offroading that is a tad longer to go with a 2.5-2.75 rear spring lift? (Old Man Emu 890)..

If you want lots of downtravel, go with OEM landcruiser shocks. Using them with my lc coils at about 3.5" of lift. Toyota quality and $40 per shock. So cheap

Will they be a bit long if I only have 2.5" of rear lift? Do you know what model # they are?

just saying take it as you may. I have 890 coils in rear. I sold the OME 60028 shocks. Went to bilstein 5125 and hands down holy cow what a change. I love it. Soft and smooth for my daily driver. Not rigid and abusive over every single crack in road.

So nice I had to change my front out cause I was fed up with rigid. Sold my OME struts with 881's. Went to TRD TUNDRA AND tundra 5100 in front. Again. I was so damn mad I didn't do those first. It's how I intended, floats and smooth but firm enough it corners amazing and doesn't jolt the dash board on any crack or change in road. I think you got my vote haha.

Stiffer shocks with softer coils and vice versa. For a daily driver, tokicos (stiffish) are better for lc coils (softish) and bilsteins (softish) are better for ome coils (stiffish). This is based on what I've read online, including sonoran steel's website, which is super informative.

So bilsteins would be the way to go with your 890s from what I've read. Note that the ss 7.2 kit, which uses the 890s, doesn't offer the tokicos as an option, presumably for this reason.

How much overall lift did that setuo give you all around? and what setting did you have the 5100s on? thanks.. really interested in this setup, hoping it clears some 285s. thanks

I think SS sells the 5125 for out 4runners and it is built for them by Bilstein (proprietory build) .... Does he sell them outright without being in a kit?

I do have my stock measurements but she was sagging pretty bad. I'll run out and measure now. Overall I believe 2.5" I did not do upper control arms and they are not stressed bad at all. Alignment came out perfect as well. I run 265, just put on a second set of tires (really didn't like my Nitto Terra Grapplers) to Goodyear Duratracs which I wish I did from start they are amazing. I didn't go 285 because I wanted to keep it as my DD and have no need for bigger. Also because the 265 Duratracs are C load range and super soft, instead of most 285 being E load. I also have an F250 on 37's so was no need to make this one nuts. I have gone great places offroad with 265's and no where I plan on pushing it to need bigger.

With that stated I could have fit 285's pretty easy. I run my stock SR5 flares along with front mud flaps I rigged up. May have touched those mounting bolts but if your fenderless your fine. My friends 1999 runner has 285 duratracs on a wider set of 18" KMC XD Revolvers. And no rubbing at all until tire is stuffed flexing.

Front springs I have set on 2nd clip from bottom (5 clip locations) and rides smooth as a new truck. Rear again is 890's and sits pretty perfect level maybe a .25-.5" higher in rear which I like.

Tried getting as accurate as possible. Give or take a 1/4"

Stock was sagged pretty hard with a drivers lean as always. MEASUREMENTS ARE CENTER OF HUBS TO LIP OF SR5 FENDER FLARES STRAIGHT UP.

Stock:
Driver: 19.25"
Driver Rear: 20"
Passanger: 19.5"
Passanger Rear: 19.5"

With Lift as state. Y/Y & Y/B TRD Tundra coils, Tundra 5100 2nd clip from bottom. 890 Rear Coils (5K miles on approx since new) and 4runner 5125 Rear shocks:

Driver: 22.5"
Driver Rear: 23"
Passanger 22.5:
Passanger Rear: 23"

She sits even and level

Exactly what model # of bilstein 5100 is that in the rear? It works good with the extra 2.75 inches?

For the front, I am thinking (for a less stiff ride) the bilstein 5100 adj. and the stock springs or the 99 tall springs... Any input on that or will the Tundra TRDs be almost the same?

Thanks for the input, your lift looks great!

I will look up the struts. Just go on toytec and look up 5100's for a Tundra pre 2004 or whatever first generation was. I'll get them though. I read a lot of people used there stock coils of not to sagged and old and had good luck. Just set clip to 4th or 5th for taller setting. Being those are taller springs maybe just use 4th clip. Depending how much height you wanted.

Hey Moroney, I have the 5125's but the shop says they don't fit.... Ive read here that others are running 5125's in the rear but didnt give any details on how to modify them to fit a 3rd gen.

Sorry never got back. If you order from right place I believe they send with the bushings you need already in lowers and I had to use the stud adaptor on top mount to use them. So it's and eye to eye shock.

Thanks for the info!

I'm going the exact same route and appreciate the measurements and the photo! Only thing different for me is I'm running 17" wheels but still same overall height. I gotta say, I love my duratracs too, I have complete confidence in snow, rain, and everything else!

Thanks for sharing:yo:

Where do you order them that they come with the bushings and adapter?
