5100 and spring question

I have been searching and reading on this stuff for a few weeks now so please point me in the right direction if I missed something but I have a few questions.

I was originally going to do 5100 and fj springs, but cant find any springs local. so now looking at ome or toytec springs.

my question is, does razing the spring perch on the 5100 negatively effect the coils function? meaning the truck will ride better and flex better with it in a lower position. if so would it be better to do a ome or toytec spring with it in the bottom position than a fj or factory spring in the 2.5 or 1.75 position?

im not looking for massive amounts of lift, just level it out and get some ground clearance and be smoother off road and have more articulation. but on road ride is most important I don't want a jarring harsh ride I don't want to have to slow for a speed bump or a dip if you know what I mean.

Higher the springs gets set on the 5100 perch, more preload there will be as well as less total up travel.

Same spring rate, but higher preload force when the shock is at full extension.


As for this happening on stock springs and 5100's, I have to disagree from what I can find out on specs. The 5100's have more travel front and rear than stock shocks, so it's very hard to "top them out" and get that harsh ride associated with high preload values. As in any vertical movement by the vehicle won't quickly use up your small amount of droop travel in the shocks then actually lift up the wheels at their travel limit.



But in general, more preload with the same shock travel gets you a higher ride height at the expense of limiting droop travel from the static ride height.

Personally I would use OME at the lowest position. Best of both worlds, lift and good ride quality.

I'm curious what would happen if you used the OME medium coils with the 5100s set at one notch up from stock(.85) setting? How would the ride be and how much lift would this provide? I currently run the 5100s at the highest setting/FJ Coils and find the ride to be very compliant.

I think momo is running OME with 5100 on 0.85 setting.

Yes, very nice ride. Not harsh, but also not loose feeling. Just right IMO. I'm running Nitto Trails.

put the 5100s and 884 up front (lowest setting) and 894e out back so far great, might be a hair stiff in the rear. lifted the v8 up almost 3 all the way around.
