5100 install with fj springs question

My truck currently has a 3”-2” rough country lift that I installed because I wanted to keep the xreas. Now the shocks are going bad so I’ve ordered 5100s for all 4 corners. The front of this lift is simple spacers, and the rear is 2” lifted springs and shock mount relocation brackets. What should I do in the front to replicate the lift I have with the spacers when installing the 5100 shocks? Should I order stock length fj springs and set the 5100 at the highest setting? I want to keep the springs in the back because they’re less than a year old and I’m happy with them. I’m guessing the shock relocation brackets can be trashed when installing the rear 5100s. I like the look my truck has I just don’t like the thunk I get from the 100k mile factory shocks so figured I’d go with 5100s and take out the spacer lift but I’m struggling with how to achieve this. Any advice? My truck is a 2003 Limited V8.

I completed the FJ coil and 5100 lift around 6 months ago. The FJ coils .5" to the lift over factory setting. With 5100s set on 1.75 and the FJ coils it provided 2.25-2.5"(ish) lift to the front of my wifes (keep in mind it is a V6 model.

The rear FJ coils add .5" of a lift over factory for a complete level look with around 1/4-1/2" of rake. There is a sticky on the FJ coil lift with 5100s and there is some V8 guys on there who commented they lift outcome.

Thank you, I think with what I’m wanting I’m just going to order the Toytec springs and new caps and just build the 5100s that way for the front. I think that will be closer to what I have now than the fj coils. I don’t want the rake and with the V8 I think the Toytec coils with 620lb rate will hold up better.

For what it's worth, Bilstein will NOT warrant your shocks if you use the FJ coils. I'm going through that with them right now. It sounds like you're already past that idea, but thought I'd toss in my experience. Can't speak to the Toytec/Eibach springs.

Strange why they wouldn't honestly?
What happened where you had to engage Bilstein? Just curious

Yeah I’ve already ordered the Toytec coils and some new kyb hats and bushings. I think setting the snap ring on the second setting on the 5100 with these springs will give me the 3” that the spacers gave me. That’s my goal anyway, same height with better ride and damping.

I to have the toytec springs with 5100 toytec does not recommend using anything other than first setting on thec5100.shock.

The info I found on them indicated that the bottom two rings on the 5100 shocks could be used for either 1.5” lift or 3”. From website that sells them:

“The Eibach 112620 is a 620lb spring rate. It was designed to work with the Bilstein 5100’ s. With the 112620 you have two different settings you can use. The first one will give you 1 ½ inches of lift and the 2nd setting will give you a 3” lift.”

I emailed toyteccand they said for strong will net 2.25 -2.50 inches. I'll know this weekend after I put them in.

I started a thread on it a few weeks back. Both of my front 5100's snapped while on a trail. Billy says it was because I used "non-approved" coils even though the 5100 for the FJ and 4th gen are the same part # and weight difference is negligible. Fun times. Going to Eibach.

Yea I would fight that one if it were me, seems that one may have failed and then the second of course under all the load was forced to fail. This may be the first time I’ve heard of this (5100s an FJ fail) of course not saying I’m right and this is the only incident of this combo failing.

Might have been just one of those things, sucks tho man sorry to hear

Thank you for the message. Approximately 2.75" of lift should be applied on the first clip setting on a V8 4th gen 4Runner. We typically see 3" on V6 4th gen 4Runners on the bottom clip setting. We do not recommend going to the 2nd clip setting.

If you want to forgo

all the guessing you could also pay a bit more and go with the 6112s which can be preset, including compensating for the driver side lean and warranted by bilstein at up to 2.75" @ which point youll most likely need upper control arms.

Just another alternative to consider..

This is what I was trying to avoid since my wife’s rig doesn’t go off road that’s much there was no need to drop coin on UCAs. It may have been off-road 2 times but nothing serious, it’s more so if a fit in thing for her with our other cars haha. So the 5100 and FJ set up was perfect for her, which allowed lift without UCAs. Now she is telling me she wants a 3” which is going to force UCAs

Thanks for this info. I emailed them and basically got told the same thing. Glad you brought this to my attention or I’d have probably installed them on the second clip ring. Shocks came in today, springs and caps should be in later this week. Dreading the install because I don’t have a lift but oh well.

I’m in the same boat. New-to-me 08 SR5 that came with a 3/2 lift installed when I bought it. Looks like a 1” spacer in the rear and a 2” coil spacer up front. However, it still has the full factory rake somehow (about 2” plus difference at the wheel wells). I’m assuming this is because the front suspension at 133k has sagged a bit (it’s still original). Does it seem right that with keeping the 1” spacers in the rear, 5100’s on 1.75” and moog FJ springs up front would level me out?
