5100 question

Hi, I have a question. I read some people put 5100's all around on the truck.
I did install 2 Bilstein 5100's in the rear ( makes a real difference from stock )

And I would like to instal the same thing in the front but 800$ is a bit off on the budget.

My question is how to I put 5100's in the front ? I can keep the original coils ?
I am not mechanicaly inclined and would like some advice from people who have done it.

I found out that 4wheelparts.com has a store in Quebec ( really happy to have found this place, prices are fair )

thanks

You simply remove the factory coil over assembly from the truck. Compress the coils slightly snd remove the top place. The coil will come free. Transfer to coil and top plate over to the 5100 at the desired ride height and put everything back together. Pretty simple

Thanks for the fast reply.

Can someone post a pic of it. I don't get how the spring will hold at the bottom. Can the stock thing that holds the coil be removed from the shock ?

sorry for my ignorance :/

If you're not mechanically inclined I do not recommend doing this yourself. There are many things that could go wrong if you don't know what you are doing.

I will most likely get it done with help from my friend, I just want to get all the info before I decide to get the 5100's for the front. But with the big difference in ride from stock I will do it soon :)

Yes they make a huge difference in ride, one of my first and favorite mods. Gets rid of the mushy, boat like ride the stock shocks provide.

Reputable mechanics should charge ~1.5 hours per strut equaling 3 hours X Rate per hour. You should be able to get your fronts done for $400 IMHO.

Just helped a member here and we knocked it out in 3.5 hours for the fronts. It is pretty straight forward.

-Remove wheel
-Undo 3 bolts that hold the top plate on
-Remove bottom strut bolt
-Remove pin and nut holding on the toe arm
-Loosen caster bolts after you have marked there positions
-Disconnect sway
At this point the strut assembly should come out. To lift, even to level
-Disconnect the UCA from the spindle (before you do this make sure you unbolt the lines attached to it (ABS, Brake)). Make sure you support the spindle via wire or jack so you don't strain the lines.
-Swap your OEM spring to your new strut and reassemble.

If you have KDSS, the sway bar is tricky but doable. I have done it once by myself, took 2 hours to reconnect it. Today it took 30 minutes with two people.
