I need help here. I am trying to replace my 5gen 4Runner alternator. But I have difficulty to remove the harness from the positive post. It has a plastic cover I have no idea how to open/remove it. I think I need to remove it before I can unscrew the harness from positive post. Anyone know how to do it?

Just replaced the alternator two weeks ago and yes removing this cover on the terminal is not intuitive. There are two parts to it one being a thin cover that you pry up from the much thicker and taller surrounding housing which stays in place under the terminal. Pry the cover up at the the engine side and it lift up towards then fender well, exposing the terminal nut.

The plastic cover just pops off. Give it a good upward tug.

Be sure to disconnect the battery first before you remove any wires attached to the cables.
