5gen dashboard nice, but INVISIBLE behind Sunglasses

Did anybody notice this? If it's sunny day, and you wear a sunglasses (may only happens to polarlized glasses), all 3 display (time, radio and A/C) becomes invisible. This is actually bad LCD screens, they should avoid such kind of design for a vehicle.

BTW, I am talking about an T4R w/o navigation. Navigarion's screen could be different anyway.

Yup, discussed plenty. About the only thing that is an ongoing annoyance for me.

Philsey is correct (kind of surprised it was not a change for 11', keep the design just change the material). However, my 'upper' display (time, temp, direction) is 99% visible with my polarized glasses, only the very far right side has a little blockage/distortion. Now the stereo...fuggeddaboutit!

I use polarized Ray-Bans and have the same issue. Unfortunately, this problem is not limited to Toyota. Polarized lenses reduce visibility on nearly any electronic display. They're also not recommended for use by pilots...

Polarized lenses are not recommended for use in the aviation environment. While useful for blocking reflected light from horizontal surfaces such as water or snow, polarization can reduce or eliminate the visibility of instruments that incorporate anti-glare filters. Polarized lenses may also interfere with visibility through an aircraft windscreen by enhancing striations in laminated materials and mask the sparkle of light that reflects off shiny surfaces such as another aircraft’s wing or windscreen, which can reduce the time a pilot has to react in a “see-and-avoid” traffic situation.

I have yet to notice this, however my glasses are not polarized. I do know however, that my fiance' mentioned black "spots" in my sunroof. And sure enough, with her polarized glasses, there are tiny blacks specs in the sunroof glass. But, with normal sunglasses i haven't noticed a problem with my display.

Polarized glasses are the killer for ALL LCD displays. They conflict in nature, so don't blame your 4RUNNER.

Try this - while wearing polarized sunglasses hold a clear overhead transparency slide in front of the display. Rotate the transparency until the display appears. Once you know the correct orientation, cut a section from the slide and place it over the display. It should stay in place by itself. I don't have a transparency so I can't check it on our T4R right now. I know this sounds odd, but it works pretty well in our other car. I've had the slice on the display in that car for 3 years with no problems.

Wow - now you've got me curious. I was just at Staples, but had no clue that I should have been buying transparencies. Might have to put some on the shopping list tomorrow, as this it would be great to solve this minor annoyance!
