5k service quote...

Can I get some feedback on this???

Going to the dealer soon for the 5k service. I was quoted a price of 52.95. Does this sound right to everyone...

I was under the assumption that the oil change was ~~$25.

Does rotating the tires and lubing the chassis really cost another $25???

If i prefer to take it somewhere to get this done.. does everyone think the dealer is the best place???

My dealer gives free oil changes. If you pay $25 for tire rotation.

Funny how they left that 2nd condition off until I picked up the car.

Oh well.

There's really nothing special about the 5k service interval. Its just an oil change and tire rotation. ~$50 is what you'd probably pay at Jiffy Lube or anywhere else. They'd charge ~$20 for the OC and ~$20 for the TR.

Or you can spend $30 and buy the oil+filter to do it yourself (even less if you don't use synethetic).

I think it varies on your dealership. For instance the dealership in Stamford CT, gives free oil changes for the life-time of the vehicle as long as you bought it from them. Then the location I bought it from does not do that, but they have not charged me more than $30. Maybe it's just that your dealership is really expensive.

My dealer gave me the first service for free. There were no conditions that had to be met for that. I know a lot of the Toyota dealers around my area give the first service free.

I finally talked the service guy into $25 for the oil change and $15 for tire rotation = $40. THe coupone I had was for the 5k service and it was $52.85... I asked what else they did at 5k, and he said they check the 'break pads'.. well... thats wasn't too helpful to me. So I get called to the service desk when the 4R is ready, she tells me to sign, and everything was free... "First service is free". I get outside.. and it is sitting right there, freshly washed.

I had a GM for 6 yrs prior to this... it had to go to service MANY, MANY times... i never got a wash before....

Yup, my dealer advertises it for around $50. It's just an oil/filter change, tire rotation and a bunch of visual inspections.

5k services are worthless in my opinion. all they do is check this, check that w/o making any changes or replacing anything. i'd say don't even bother and just do it yourself. this way you learn more about your 4runner

and rotating tires really don't require alot of work. heck you can even take it to america's tire/discount tire or places like that and they'll do it free (usually).

Sounds like good advice except that I like to torque the lug nuts according to specs. That's a good way to avoid warped rotors.

most tire place will do rotating for free! last time I have my Mr2 rotated at tire kingdom in Tampa and they did it for FREE! I was going to pay for it but they told me no charge so I give the guy who did it a $10 tip for his time since I did not get anything else done
