Hi,

First 4Runner owner and new to this forum. I've search on this topic and can't find the thread so here my question.

I recently purchased 2011 5th gen limited. Less than 200 miles now.
Since the day I pickup my car, I hear squeaky brake sound. Not from the outside break pad. Sound is from inside the cabin where the break paddle is. I took it to dealer service and they told me this is normal. Is this normal?

I also hear that squeel internally too.

I don't know what it is but it is triggered by slightly pressing the brakes everytime.

I heard a pressurized noise (a 'pssst') at the brake pedal during my 10 mile test drive when driving in parking lot quarters. I was gentle on this vehicle however (light foot on the gas and brake) since it only had 1-2 miles on it.

Is your noise coming from the inside the cabin at the pedal area or exteral near the brake hardware?

it is from inside when step on break paddle. yes. it is sounds like "pressurized air noise - pssst" noise.

It's perfectly normal and I think everyone here with a 5th gen has it too. Takes a little getting used to, but after a while you'll stop paying attention to it.

It doesn't go away, you get used to it and basically just block it out. AS far as this being a new system, I have no idea. My 08 Tacoma didn't make this noise, but then again I didn't have Traction or Stability Control.

New (2010) Tacoma's make the infamous brake squish too, and is a bit louder than ours. Just a new Toyota truck thing we all have to get used to so don't let it drive you nuts... :wow:

really? that's a bummer! from very quite prius driver, i love the 4runner engine sound but squeaky sound on break... i was at service today and they simply told me it is normal. lol without explain why.

I get the noise too.

Also, I occasionally feel a slight "clunk" or "flutter" when I am lightly applying the brakes. It's almost like the brake pedal is loose on its pivot and is "rattling" back and forth. The feeling is very slight.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Thanks!

The clunk may be a sticky slip yoke. Very common on Toyota trucks with telescoping drive shafts.

The brake pedal noise is normal and also happened on my 08 FJ

The brakes may also groan when slightly releasing pressure, also normal and happened on my 08 FJ as well.

Yes its normal. My brake pedal sounds like im stepping on a wet sponge. My 4th gen also had it.

I noticed that mine squeaks during mornings, when the break is cold (especially after rainy mornings). After a few brakes, can't hear them anymore. Is this normal?

Just got my new 2011 sr5 home and noticed the brake noise. Called my sales man he really didn't know so he called me back and said it was normal. I was not sure if i belived him but this thread make me feel better about it . still not happy i have a new suv making a noise.

Toyota refuses to correct poor design brake issues

I have been informed by several Toyota Dealers in different states that the 2010 4runner is notorious for the brake rattling and hissing sounds from the brake system on the 2010 4runner. I filed a request for repair with the local dealer and they passed it to the “Field Technical Specialist” who concurred that these is a very notable issues, but other similar vehicles are the same. He in turn passed it to Toyota “Engineers” who concluded “your 4runner meets Toyota’s manufacture’s specifications, there is no future repair or action to be taken at this time.” Yelp, we have your money and don’t care about you as a customer anymore, is this not how the US auto makers got into trouble?

Do we as customers and owners of this new 2010 4runner accept this outrageous and unacceptable position from Toyota? If you have a similar problem with your vehicle please let me know.

I have a vedio clip of what Toyota says meets their specifications, unbleaviable. Just send me a note and I will send it to you.....

I don't know if this aplies to this problem but on the new Jeeps some people had this sound . Turned out to be the rubber boot where the break peddle arm passed through the fire wall . Silicone spray solved this problem .
