5th gen 4runner Trail hood scoop

HI,
I am new to this forum. My wife and i are going to be buying 5th gen 4runner trail this year. When we are at the dealer getting a look at one, I saw that the hood scoop was a non functional. Does anyone change that?

And if anyone has some advice on buying and what upgrades i should?

im sure there is a way to make the hood scoope functional...i bought my first 4runner ever this year and love it...i have a trail edition with kdss/navigation wouldnt trade it for the world

I've heard people making it work, but in the Tacomas. Looking at the throttle body position it seems as though it would be a PITA and better off installing an CAI that sits in the fender well. Just a thought and opinion.

I've seen a bright white LED light bar that might fit in the space and function as an off-road driving light. I'll try and find it and post the info/ here. :wow2:

There is no proven advantage to opening the scoop but it will allow dirt and debris in there also with minimal fresh air so IMO it's not worth the trouble.

if you want it to be "functional" you should just pony up for a snorkel.

BTW, they can always be mounted in the lower grille area on ALL versions of the T4R!

hood scoop can be functional for other reasons than intake. Take for example, ventilation for the engine? It does get pretty warm under the hood and having fresh air rammed through there would keep the engine cooler on the hot summer days.

I have never heard of this height issue before, is this just for on the hwy driving or for off road as well?

What about lights on the roof of your vehicle. Are they not higher than the headlamps?

You can have lights, just not in colors like red or blue or green. You'll get pulled over and most likely taken to court. I remember I was at court paying a speeding ticket and this guy got a ticket for having red lights in his washer nozzles. :nono:
