You are absolutly correct in this regard. The issue was that the SR5 and TE dont have a matching Aluminum Alloy type spare wheel but rather have a full size basic steel wheel. No more 5 wheel rotations.

They lost me when they discontinued the manual transmission in the 4Runner. Too bad I'm in the minority.
The wheelbase is the same, so I suspect that the frame is a 4th gen frame with minor changes. I also suspect that much of the suspension is the same. Probably lots of other parts (e.g., seat frame rails, heater core, etc., etc.).

The rear view camera in the rear view mirror adequately replaces the interior mirrors, I think. But I agree with you on all your other points.

Those little mirrors do not really serve the same function as the rear view camera. I have the mirrors in my 4Runner and the only thing they are really useful for is seeing what's coming up or down the road (or aisle) when you are backing out of parking space, say, between two large panel vans. In other words, they don't do anything to show you what's directly behind you, they simply allow you to see what's coming from the sides.

Ah, gotcha. My Limited doesn't have them. I thought they showed directly behind the truck.

Yeah, I mentioned that in the very first post of this thread. That's one of the things that inspired me to create this thread. It just seems like Toyota really cheaped out on the little things (and some big things) on the 5th gen. Very disappointing...but then again I'm not in the market for a 5th gen and I doubt I ever will be based upon what I've seen so far. I'm not a loyal Toyota fan, so switching brands isn't a problem for me.

Is the Burger Tray still there on the 5th Gen?
I love that little feature, I use it every day. It's little things like that, is why I love my 04.
From everything I've been reading on the 5th Gen, there is no way I'll ever consider "upgrading" to this new generation. Toyota cut just too many corners on it, to save them costs.

I am actually getting accustomed to the new look but those little mirrors are great and up here the heated outside mirrors are a must have. I don't know if they "cheaped" the Runner, but those little things are great. And yes, when you want a burger tray ya gotta love that little thing.......purfect for fries.:hello:

Nope its been deleted, see post # 6, but they did retain the tissue box holder and added a pen holder next to it

You guys would never survive in a 3rd gen even a Limited version.
Toyota had to keep costs down and that's simply how it is and yes some loss of options do suck but if Toyota can keep the SR5 in the $35k price range (like they were back in '98) then I think that's pretty good and you still get more than you did back then for $35k and better technology and they are much safer.
I guess the 5th gen will make some of you move on to another Toyota or brand but I'm simply happy the 5th gen still retained it's off road prowess and didn't become another pavement pounding Highlander sibling.

I'd happily pay $36K (instead of $35K, for example) if Toyota would give me a matching spare wheel, an antenna in the glass, and a remote release fuel filler door. Hell, I'd even pay another grand for projector headlights and LED taillights.
I think the point is that they are really cheapening the vehicle to keep the prices the same. If I wanted a capable & cheap midsize SUV without all the nice features, I'd buy a Nissan Xterra. Seems to me that this is the market that Toyota is targeting now.
