Having recently (less than a month) purchased a 2011 5th gen limited, I think I am having buyer's remorse of not getting the trail edition instead. For my practical purpose and use, the creature comforts and abilities of the limited suits me just fine. But, there is some sort of magnetic pull, lust if you will, for the trail edition, namely the body styling and the off-road capabilities (which I would probably use once in a blue moon, if that). I do have the means to trade in the limited for the trail edition, but is the grass really greener on the other side or am I lusting after something I have no business in getting? :toilet3:

I just picked up the Ltd myself (10 days ago), and I've had lots of 'remorse' over some items, but there's no way that the TE would be 'worth it' for me. I imagine you are in a similar situation, the improved off-road sure would be 'cool', but would you use it?
Also, if you got the TE, then you would read all the other threads here, and you would realize that the TE needs to be lifted, needs 'sliders', bigger wheels, a winch, etc.... where does the lusting ever end?
I've allowed myself $10 for a stubby antenna, and I'm picking up some wheels from a 2010 FJ Cruiser to use for winter tires, but they come with the original FJ Tires too, with TPMS and 400km on them... so I essentially get a full set of alternate wheels too.... with those wheels I can be more aggressive off-road.... but, what are the chances I will ever go anywhere that the 20" Geolanders won't make it?
Anyway, you will miss all the nice things like the heated seats, better sound, full-time 4x4 (good for winter), etc.

I wish I would have done some more research before I purchased mine as well because it would have been an SR5 or TRAIL vice a LTD. The LTD in my opinion is overpriced for what you get when you compare the 3 next to each other (although I did get a STEAL on my LTD, if I had to do it over again I would have went TRAIL).

Harper7 got those included in the purchase of his LTD.....he didn't purchase those separately. If I remember correctly it's about $2k just for the bumper/fender parts not counting the hood scoop and roof rails.
Mib - I am the same way - I love to look at some of the Trails and Harpers awesome rig, too - but when I get out to the garage I am thrilled to see my Limited.
For me, the vast majority of my driving is on-road and we can have some nasty winters here and I wouldn't want to be without the full-time 4WD.
I just wouldn't want to buy a nearly 40K Truck without leather, auto climate control, heated seats, auto headlights, etc....
When I test drive a trail and SR5 the massive nose-dive was an issue for me - so I really appreciate the X-Reas in my Limited.
Also, I am kind of a safety nut - and I really like the 'Safety Connect' feature that is exclusive to the Limited. And becuase of safety concerns, I would not life my truck because it increases roll-over risk.
The Limited has EXCELLENT off road capability - solid rear axle, A-Trac, true 4WD system with 2 speed transfer case.
I love the look of the trail - but I also love the look of the SR5 and Limited. All 5th Gen T4R's are OK in my book.
That's a good point - for what you would lose in trading in your month old truck you could easly spend 2K and get the body look you want.
That is SO true...sigh. IF I were to get a second one, it would be a 2009 Trail Edition with both center and rear lockers...

After 11 years of wanting a 4Runner Sport I'm finally able to afford one! Only now it is a 4R Trail, it's been that long a wait. I want what I want and know will make me feel great! A TE with KDSS and no navigation in Silver. I will be flying back to the US from my tour in Japan and will drive it cross-country from Seattle to FL, to finally NY. I think it looks the coolest of the three and I'll find an excuse to off road. If I don't I'm still driving the best looking vehicle out there!! Sometime you gotta go with your gut man.

I wanted a TE. None available in the 5-State region (Gulf States Toyota). If you have the funds to trade your 2011 LTD, wait until the 2012's come out and go for it!! It's only money, you can't take it with you - be happy!

Sometimes I wish I had gone for the Canadian SR5 upgrade package, which looks almost identical to the TE from the outside (minus the hood scoop, black roof rails, and wheels). Obviously you would lose the off-road features (not that I have used any of them beyond 4-High yet), but you would gain leather and the leather steering wheel.
There is a silver SR5 upgrade that is parked at a local Toyota dealership and I always get a little remorseful when passing it..... however once I source a leather steering wheel and get some Katzkin leather I'm sure I will feel remorse no more!
