5th Gen Calipers

I upgraded my front calipers/rotors/pads to 5th gen last weekend after having a piston seize in the left front. No surprises, huge props to the OP for figuring this out. Stops sooo much better. I bought rotors/pads at the local NAPA. Still need to mail my cores back to rockauto. Will do 5th gen rears eventually.
 
Being in Canada, I will likely order from a local company as opposed rock auto. Are the 5th gen the same on all models and years? Meaning do I order brakes for a 2010 SR5 or a 2013 Limited, or does it even matter?
 
I ordered everything for 2010-15 Sr5 and everything was good. Rear rotors and calipers fit without any modification. Front needed dust guard trimming since I had smaller sr5 rotors.

What's the difference in the two stainless rear brake lines listed here? Do I need both?

I'm going to be replacing a caliper and want to throw in stainless lines while I have the brake fluid out of the system.
 
Hey guys, hoping you all who did the 5th gen caliper upgrade are enjoying it. I know I am and the extra braking power is just amazing.

The two sets of rear brake lines are:
1 set at the calipers
The other set is at the rear axle allowing it to flex with the axle.

If you have a lift and off-road a lot, you can upgrade those. They were hard to access but worth it for some. Right by the gas tank and axle
 
Why do the rears too?

I have used front calipers on the way.

Local dealer hooked me up with OEM Rotors, Pads, pins, clips, and all other hardware.
I "hope" to have everything this weekend.
I rebuilt my stock calipers 2 months ago. Was great, for about a week, then sticky/pulsating is back. I can't take it anymore.

Are rears calipers mandatory? I'll have my spare OEM rotors for the rear machined before hand.

Anybody want a "deal" on my old calipers? I have 2 sets of rotors too....
 
I couldn't stand the pulsation. My steering wheel didn't shake with the pulsation so the fronts weren't the problem. When you feel it in the seat is usually the rears.

When I took them off I couldn't believe the amount of corrosion and uneven pad wear (on front and rears) the calipers didn't slide very easily or smooth, the cylinders were very rusty.

I wanted it gone so I replaced everything. Took no chances and consider the money spent well worth it. Smooth braking ever since.
 
I've had crappy brakes for a while now and I bought a bunch of crap from Advance Auto...started to get to work and try to get the rotors and pads changed...quickly realized the first one I took apart (passenger side) had at least one seized piston....

From all that I have read here my 2004 SR5 with 17 inch wheels (from a 2013 stock Tacoma TRD SPORT) will take these bigger rotors and calipers as long as I trim or bend back the dust shields. I can go with stainless steel brake lines or keep my originals. Am I missing anything?
 
Add me to the list. I just changed the calipers out to the 5th gen and also upgraded my pads and added braided brake lines up front.
So far so good.
 
No caliper sticking yet. Me personally I'm waiting to see how they work after winter up here in Canada.

Regarding the rear calipers, the piston is 2-3mm larger in diameter so increased braking force. Optional if you need the extra braking power

They sure do. My 4th gen rears were much worse than my fronts. They caused all the pulsation in my truck. The rear pads weren't evenly worn. Once replaced, everything has been perfect like a brand new car. If I came off the brake pedal quickly you could hear the rear calipers release shortly after. Now there's nothing and it's nice.

Really glad I did them (all 4) before moving out to seattle from Chicago. These mountains would make me nervous with pulsating brakes/sticky calipers.
 
Hmm I have a 2004 v8 limited ,

we had one sized caliper... we have to swap all the brake pads and brake rotors... it seems for not much more you i can also swap to 5th gen calipers ...

are the limited 4th gens the same as the 5th gens? I assume not because I had a sized caliper.

What do you guys think. Good thing i saw this post almost pulled the buy trigger on OEM rotors and pads for 4th gen.
Centric is oem quality?

Has everyone used the Centric calipers when they upgraded?

How is Centric as a brand? I havent been having too much luck with none oem lately. just want to be sure
 
Going to do this soon. Has anyone had any issues with rock auto or any other autoparts not accepting the old 4th Gen calipers as cores for the 5th gen calipers?
