5th Gen Christmas Thread 2016!

This will be the "official" thread to share and swap stories about the upcoming holidays! As we all know the 5th gen sub-forum is a place to discuss 5th gen 4Runners. This thread will be sort of a temporary exemption on that rule (although you can certainly discuss your 4Runner here lol) and many of us will want to discuss our 4Runners, family, gifts and travel and instead of having 100 threads let's do it in one place this year! I'll start:

First, my T4R.org Secret Santa gift arrived last night! I appreciate the portable hiking stove and will put it to good use!
This Christmas is a bit odd. For the past 32 years and raising two children in the process, my wife and I have always had the house completely decked out for the holidays. Lights, inside and outside, snowy village scenes, trees both up and downstairs and lots of gifts. Well, right now our home is torn apart as my Christmas gift to my wife is being installed lol. New hardwood floors everywhere so setting up Christmas is not an option! I put the lights up outside but inside is pretty much a disaster. They should be done by the 20th but then the cleaning begins.
The most important part is family being with us anyway, but not having all the trees, lights, village scenes, etc is strange.
Anyway, I would like to take this time to wish all of you a Merry Christmas! I have been around here for quite some time now and for all my 4Runner friends, both old and new, take care over the holidays and enjoy the time with your family.

wife and i are in the middle of selling our house, moving into an apartment, and early stages of building a new house. pretty much have zero spare cash.

we have decided that we won't be doing christmas for each other. just the boys. gonna be a weird one. at this moment, christmas is the last thing on my mind. my birthday was last sunday, and we had pizza for dinner while my wife was getting her hair done. it's been a weird month. ready to get it over with.

My Christmas gift to my truck was it's 60k service today. I was gone for the entire year in the Middle East, so it only saw about 1800 miles of driving for the year.

I've been in Florida for over 20 years but never got used to no snow at Christmas, it's just not the same. On a lighter note I'm pretty sure the big box I had to help my wife carry inside the other day (no peeking) was my Dometic fridge.
I hope everyone has a safe and happy holiday, and I just want to once again thank all those that have helped me with all my little tweaks to the truck.

I just serviced my wife's 2001 Camry XLE (132,000 miles) for her:
Rotated and topped up tires,
Changed oil and filter,
Topped up other fluids,
Cleaned it inside and out,
reset the Check engine light (notorious for code 440 - gas cap),'
- that was all I could stand - it's 18F out in the garage.
- hoping the 2013 SR5 4Runner continues as reliable as her Camry.

The Camry has had two batteries, one set of brakes, three sets of tires, 4 sets of wipers in all that time, She doesn't drive as much as I do (132,000 miles/15 years = 8800 miles per year)

I'm heading down to San Antonio for Christmas again this year and sharing it with my folks, unfortunately my brother and his family wont be able to make it this time.

Which kind of sucks, I spent the last few months building him a rifle for Christmas. But it looks like I'll make the drive to Corpus the day after to spend some time with him and his wife. I cant wait to give it to him. Hopefully some day, his son(due march) will end up with it and pass it along as well.

Unfortunately Christmas and New Years this year will be onboard my ship. But I guess somebody has to move the oil..

On the flip side, at least next year I'll be in the midwest for Christmas instead of Florida, so it won't be 80 degrees in December!

Im trying to decide whether to buy a 4runner for xmas.

2014 trail edition with 45k on the clock for $29k or an SR5 with 29,300 on the clock for $29k

Trail doesent seem to have KDSS per the vin decoder so i dont even know if its worth it. Some beach/sand trails and new england winters are the extent of my off roading and my current tacoma has never had an issue.

Hi everyone, I'm a new member and a new owner of a 2010 SR5 4x4, which is soon to receive it's first upgrade of 5100's in the front (gift from the GF) and 1.5 inch spacers in the rear, plus I'll be removing the soccer mom style running boards to give it even more ground clearance. Next project will require saving for new wheels and tires, so here's hoping for a happy and prosperous new year!

Are they both 2014s? If so, I'd go with the lower mileage SR5 for sure. Trail is not worth the 16k mile difference

I believe the trail does not have kdss. At least that's what I can gather as I don't see it noted in the vin check.
The sr5 is pretty spot on in that mile range for price based on comps.

I wish I could just find a damn sr5 premium.

Wife and I decided that we will take our little one to Disney world and that will be our gift to each other ( we are both Disney nuts). I did however end up buying the Gobi rack, the maxtraxs and a Dji drone ( you know for those good photo shots) this week. After I come back I have to tell her I also bought some new tires and will be ordering a lift. I always say easier to ask for forgiveness than permission.

Starting this weekend by installing the new Frontrunner Slimeline II 3/4 rack. This came in just in time as we are loading up the family, dog and all of the ski/snowboard gear on the 23rd and heading up to Maryland to visit the Grandparents for Christmas. It usually takes us about 17-18 hours straight through the night...the only way to do it with a 4 and 2 year old.

After x-mas with the relatives and a few days in the "home state" we will be driving up to Vermont for New Years and a couple days of skiing/boarding at Smugglers Notch. Super excited about this since my daughter hasn't seen snow since we moved from California 2 years ago (and we've been itching to get her up on skis), and my son has never been in snow before.

After another brief stint in Maryland to rest we'll be heading back here to South Florida to thaw out. Should be a pretty cool 2 week road trip, and I can't wait to experience seasons again as I am sick and tired of sweating!

Damn, power wheels have come a long way in the past 30 years...LOL! I remember the old 3 wheeler I had as a kid with the 1 wheel drive that would just spin anytime you got in the grass (those commercials with the kids off roading them were a crock of shit!). Where were ARB air lockers when I needed them as a 5 year old!
