to test if your car has it, tap your window with your key. IF your alarm goes off, then you have it. If it doesn't go off then you don't.

In my old tundra, it was a microphone that plugged into one of the blanks on your dash and plugged into the ecu harness. Plug and play installation.

I looked into the links provided in this thread. I saw the OE installation pdf and its for a tacoma. Not sure if it has the same hood latch connector/pin and the correct pins under the dash as the 4runner.


This is one of the few things that I'm looking to add to my 4runner also.

I couldn’t tell you. On my driver and passenger windows there are 2 different alarm stickers on each. I believe the module plugs in under the driver’s side dash but I could be wrong.

Mine has the same two stickers....

Interesting- may try this. Is there a way to run the VIN to see if it has the alarm pkg?

Drone + Compustar

Just spent some more time reading older threads. I think my conclusion is that the ultimate combo would be Drone Mobile + Compustar both installed and working in concert. Anyone have comments on this?

I don't care much if they steal the truck, I can get a new one and it's less messy than broken glass. However, it's not always practical to leave zero personal items in the car. I have started locking things with cables to the tie downs. They can still break the window, but they probably don't want to mess with cables and locks to get out a bag. It takes too long.

There are so many car break-in that police simply take it as a data point. They don't have the time to investigate them. San Francisco had 31,000 break-ins last year, another reason not to go or live there.

What I can say about a noise maker is, the reason they go through the window is there is no alarm. A noise maker at least draws unwanted attention to the thief.

The other things to do is add an inward looking dash cam and place a 110 db horn on the inside of the car.

Pointless.

By the time you hear it and get to your truck the culprit is gone. Junkies dont care and are quick. Save yourself some money. The sensor isnt going to deter these thieves. They arent scared of sound and you wont be able to fly down to them like Superman in a few secs. Cause in 3 secs they r gone.
