I'm doing some service for a friend on his 2015 T4R TRDP. 165k miles.
Spark plugs, diff service, tcase oil, transmission fluid. After completing those services I am getting P0113 and P0103. It will rev and run but if I let it idle it falls on its face almost immediately and dies. There are several warning lights in addition to the CEL.
I have a code reader with very limited live data. The code reader thinks both Denso MAFs are at Negative 40 Degrees Celsius and that something like 400 gps of air are passing though the sensor. I think maybe my scanner is just bugged on this car? Or can the computer not see the sensor at all and this is the default when no sensor is found?
I should mention that when I removed the metal tube between the drive side header and emissions air pump one of the studs on the header broke. I disconnected both battery terminals and attempted to weld a nut onto that stud 4 or 5 times. The ground was placed on the same flange as had the broken stud as to be as close as possible. This did not work. I ended up drilling out the broken stud with a flex shaft drill adapter and an assortment of hex drill bits. The stud was replaced with a nut and bolt combo. Both the metal gaskets were replaced at the same time.
I have welded to vehicles many times including 3rd gen 4runners, 1st gen Tacomas and 2nd gen Tundras. I have always taken similar precautions and had no drama. I don't think this is the issue but it is worth mentioning.
I have tried all the basic stuff. Checking fuses, double and triple checking my work. I have now moved on to testing the MAF plug.
Looking at the back of the connector:
Pin #1 (black wire) 8.66v
Pin #2 (white wire red stripe) Ground
Pin #3 (green with black stripe) MV
Pin #4 (green with black stripe) 5v reference
Pin #5 (white with black stripe) Ground
The Above feels weird to me. With no MAF plugged in and the key on shouldn't one of those pins be 12volts?
I back probed the MAF sensor with the 4runner barely running and noticed Pin #1 voltage had fallen to around 2 and a half volts.
Can someone please share the diagnostic procedure and wire diagram please? Does anyone have a test procedure for testing the MAF sensor itself?
