2011 LCA bushing replacement - Whiteline Alert

Just a heads up,

My 2011 4runner was in need of some new lca bushings so I ordered some Whiteline bushings from aftermarketsuspensionparts (Front Control Arm Bushings - Toyota FJ Cruiser).

Well, it turns out they do not fit. They are slightly smaller than the stock ones. I called the vendor and they cannot guarantee they can send me ones that do fit since the manufacturer states that those are the correct ones and should fit.

So, I have to ship them back and get a refund. Now I am without a car until I get the ones I just ordered from the dealer.

If you were thinking of getting some keep that in mind.

Shows it as available separately in the parts diagram. Looks like about $200 for all four online after a quick search. Although, if it's anything like the front control arm bushings in the 80 series you'll wish you just bought the whole arm instead!

Guys don't waste ur time and money.. try the sway bar bushings firstm. I can almost promise you that's what it is.

UCA Bushings Done - Pop Continues

Well, swapped out the UCA bushings with OEM ones. The ride is a little better, tighter. Not sure if they were bad or not but the dealer claims they were, but in any case they are done. I also changed out my cv axle while I was at it.

I just ordered some sway bar bushings to see if that stops the pop.

These are the uca bushing part numbers I got from the dealer ($320 ouch)

48654-60050 - Smaller Bushings
48655-60050 - Larger Bushings

btw, messing with bushings is no joke. damn!

LCA issues

Not to jump in on this thread way after the fact, but its nice to know that other 5th gen owners are having LCA issues, I have had both my LCA's replaced on my 2015 in the past 4 months and one is going bad again, or at least that's what they tell me.

Insurance paid for the first 2 but they are saying they wont pay for this one. Just seems odd to me to blow 3 control arms when you only have 50k on a truck and are running a Bilstein 2 inch lift......hwell:

Whiteline website doesn't show that part number for FJs. Maybe updated since then. They're showing a W53522 for their lower control arms. What's weird is that they don't list the same part for a 4runner. I'm in need of bushings and am hoping someone has been successful using these FJ bushings

FWIW - the bushing in the photo is completely wrong for the 4runner lower control arm - even it if did fit.

The 4Runner lower control arm relies on the solid metal bushing sleeve to span the distance between the LCA mounting tabs on the front and rear. When you tighten the LCA mounting bolt assembly - it flexes the two LCA tabs to clamp against the through-shaft metal bushing and that's how it holds it in place. You'll notice the OEM bushing assembly has metal end caps with "teeth" in them. Those grip against the metal of the flange. The compressed and clamped ends hold the LCA bushing in place with both the mechanical keying from those teeth and the friction of the clamping force.

The load should not be actually resting or relying on the bolt or the bolt sleeve as a shear pin. Many aftermarket bushings do this. It's far weaker than the OEM design. If you go that route - I would suggest reinforcing the tabs with something like Marlin Crawler's weld in gussets. You're completely changing the load path and making it a lot weaker going to poly bushings if you don't upgrade the tabs. It does seem to work for people, but the reason you see them being knocked out of alignment for example has a lot to do with questionable engineering of aftermarket bushings.
