5th Gen Lift

So, I have been reading and seeing lifts on the diff gens of the 4R and I think I caught the bug...
Only problem is I have no clue what I need.
I am not looking to creat a "monster truck" but would like the look of a 1-3" lift. I have been to ToyTecs website, but now i am even more confused.
Which kit do I need? DO I need to get the whole suspension overhaul or can I get away with the front spacers and rear springs?
Will the 4Runner be level or will I need to do something additional as to not have the lean (side or front to back) I have seen in some pics?
So many questions...probably even some I do not even know to ask, yet.

Hold off until there are coilover options. Spend the bucks and do it right. You can manage side to side lean, and work within 1-3" of lift with the coilovers. Don't rush into something.

I agree. Don't bother with the Spacer lifts they'reSo Gay

Wait till a proper coil over comes around. The toytec stuff is supposed to be nice. Lots of good reviews on their FJ kits. Eventually OME, ICON, Sway away etc will get to market also.

The truck will handle better with coilovers, no question. I currently have Toytecs 3-2 level kit, with spacers in the front and new rear springs. I love it. I am going to put new UCA's and coilovers on, just saving some money. Spacers work fine for most people, forever. The problem is, just like anything else, is that you buy spacers and realize there is something else out there that is better, weather you need it or not, you buy that to take it a step further. If you have the money now, just go all out. Get front coilovers, and new UCA's. Buy new rear springs, and new rear shocks. If not get spacers. I love my toytecs, however there are other options out there to check out. Toytec for the money is one heck of a coilover. I ran all Fox stuff on my FJ and loved it. You can find Fox coilovers at All Pro Off Road in CA.

Also, just a heads up. Its not a new kit for the 5th gen. All the 4th gen lifts fit the 5th gen, with the exception of the icon coilovers, i think.

I read that the Icon coilovers do not fit the 2010 FJ so I would assume they don't fit the 4RNR either.
Good to hear most kits work. Sorry false info.

ps. Spacer lifts are still GHEY!!!
 
On a similar note-- I have been waiting on someone to put a legit 3" lift F and R on their 5th gen. Anyone done it yet? I have seen alot of like 1.75-2" stuff so far, but I am looking to do nothing less than 285s so I would like to have 3" front and rear. I am mostly concerned with the rear, anyone put on some OME coils yet?!?!?!

I have 3" in front, just spacers for now :( NEED MORE MONEY!!!!!!!!

I put Toytec coils in the rear, and am running 33's. The fit great! Dont have heavy bumper yet and still wanted a good ride. The Toytec's have a little stiffer spring rate than stock and have given me the right lift with a great ride.

What kind of lift are you running????
 
the toytec and icon coilovers fit the 2010 (4runner and fj). while ordering you just click the drop down and be sure to select 2010.

Hopefully today i will be buying the toytec coilovers and OME rear springs. I'm trying to work out a price with them because they have the "ultimate lift kit" which includes coilovers, rear springs, dif drop, sway bar relocates, and extended rear shocks. problem is the rear shocks are back-ordered, so we are trying to reach a fair deal. I also still have my TC UCA's from my Tacoma which i'm pretty sure will fit, so they will go on at the same time as the coilovers.

But to shawn719, it's important to know what you will do with your truck, before you buy a lift. if you want the lift just for appearance definitely get the spacer kit. If you plan on getting into off-roading, spend the money on better parts now and you'll be happy you did later.

None yet. In between my Totalled FJ and Potentially driving home a TE tomorrow.

I have had Spacers (budget boosts)on jeeps in the past and they were nice for looks but stunk offroad. They were soon switched out for full rubicon express longarm lifts on both my old TJ and XJ. Gears lockers and 36" Swampers. I just wonder whos gonna have the first 5th gen on 36 / 37's.

One last thing, will any kit work with the KDSS? Read that this may be an issue.

I'm assuming any lift 3" or lower will not be a problem with KDSS after my conversations with Rich Garver (Toyota tech/builder of 5th Gen BAJA 4Runner).

PICS, I dont think I have seen anyone on true 33s yeat, just a bunch with 275s

Good news, that is new. When I got my stuff from them they told me the front Icons would not. Icon must have fixed the problem! I have never had them but guys rave about those coilovers.

How do you like your TC UCA's. I think I want the Light Racing or Camburgs. I like I can use stock balls and not have any noise issues.
 
Good call. Yeah, I am not an avid off roader, like the look more so. I would use the 4x4 on occassion but not to the extremes as some of the serious folks on here.

Toytec 3" spacer in front, Toytec 2" rear springs. Running 275/60R20, which is 33X11.5.

I plan on new coilovers but will not look any different, when I put those on, same amount of lift.
