I would guess that the duct work will be the same, but the question is the various sensors and ECU. If the sensor inputs are the same and the ECU is build into the dash unit, you can probably make it work. If there are ECU components elsewhere, it may get pricey and complicated.
That's the connector behind my unit (2010 LE):

Don't mind the CB Coax.. but the other connectors you would be interested in.

I was hoping I had a pic of the HVAC control unit while it was out of the dash, but I don't....
Hope this helps somewhat....
Okki
Aside from the electronics, the biggest issue is going to be the whole dual climate control air mixing/rerouting hardware from the LE into the TE.

Notice the extra servos for the driver and passenger side air mixing? That's going to be a pain in the rear to swap over...IMO, this is probably cost prohibitive
EDIT: Also, it's been a while since I've read the wiring diagrams, but I am pretty sure the way the climate control panel communicates with the rest of the computers is via serial data bus signal, so you really can't even just try to match each button (wire for wire), it's way too complicated nowadays, lol.
I will pull mine out and compare the plugs, I think it will plug in, but i know from experience the dual climate will not work.
you are correct, the dual climate will not work, I put the limited HVAC in my 4th gen SR5 and everything worked except the dual climate. There was no benefit to swapping it, I just had an extra and likes the look of the Limited better.
I must be the only one that likes the big, old-fashioned knobs.imp:
Easier and faster to adjust, and there's no need to look at them while driving once you get used to them. Buttons are less intuitive than dials IMO.
I'm not sure why, exactly, but I hate auto controls- HVAC, Headlights, etc.

Has anyone tried to upgrade to the limited HVAC controls in an SR5 or Trail?
It looks like the 4th gen, and i was just wondering if it could be swapped in...
I tried the straight swap with the limited controller into my TE.
It DOES NOT WORK.
It powered up, but no fan control. The fan would NOT turn on no matter how I had the control set. It appeared to let me set temp for each side, but again I couldn't test because none of the fans would spin.
There is a thread running someplace on this already......where several members theorized on what else it would take to make it go....
Do you think you can do a hvac swap from a 2020 trd pro digital hvac into a 2020 trd off road premium. Since they are essentially the same truck.
Basically I am trying to build out my own trd pro from my off road premium

Hello friend, did You change the wiring harness? I bought a heater temperature control automatic for My 4runner sr5 year 2012,and the lights turn on, but the fan and the ac doesnt work and I could not see the temperature at the sides, can You help.me?
