Crossed a river, now it is starting to smell musty. Have to pull the carpet. Anybody done this? Anything to look out for?

Best deodorant for removed carpet?

It's actually pretty easy. Be sure to remove front seats and back seats. Then remove the plastic trim pieces near the footwells and door sills and it will all come as one big piece. Once you tag out all the carpets, you'll expose drain plugs that have caps on them, you can take those off in case you have any residual water in there.

I've done it twice now. It's easy, just get a trim removal tool, the sets are cheap and provide a variety of tips. You'll have to pull the seats, console, sill trim, and kick panels. The carpet is held in with some velcro against the firewall and plastic stretchers that clip into retaining clips in the sills.

It's about a 15-30 minute job, even solo.

Is the padding foam? Can I use a hose to wash the pulled carpet and padding?

On the back of the carpet there is some padding in key areas, most of it is jute backing, with a couple of pieces of foam. I pressure washed mine (with a basic home electric pressure washer, like 1800 PSI I think) both times. The jute backing is a little worse for wear, but I wanted to make sure I got all traces of funk removed. I sprayed mine with some enzyme-based carpet cleaner and left it in the sun for UV activation and to dry, with a big shop fan blowing over it. Careful scrubbing the carpet, if you do, I "fluffed" the pile a bit in one section when getting aggressive with a nylon brush.

Absolutely worst case, I found the carpet for around $500. While I'm done with mud bogs and unknown water traps, if it happens again I'll likely end up replacing the carpet rather than trying to get another deep cleaning out of it. I don't think the jute will hold up to another pass.

I have pulled the interior on various vehicles, not the 4runner yet. Highly recommend a commercial grade steam cleaner with the proper soap. Do not use the $100 steam cleaner. A proper commercial grade steam cleaner will remove the dirt and most of the water. This speeds up dry time. If you have access to a garage use a fan on the interior carpet to speed up dry time. Wipe down all metal surfaces with Simple Green. Use a fan inside the 4runner to speed up dry time. These actions best done sooner than later.

OP - if you were in water deep enough to get your carpet wet - then I suggest you check that water didn't get in the rear diff vent. There are a couple of threads you can search for that attaches a hose to the vent and relocates it higher.

carpets floor mats are standard?

Recently purchase a 2019 4runner limited. I chose one with the optional all weather floor mats which I paid extra for this optional add on. I picked up the car with the all weather mats installed but only noticed that the carpet floor mats were missing. Aren't the carpet floor mats supposed to come standard with the 4runner? As if I did not choose the optional all weather mats, would the 4runner have come bare?

I believe that technically, bare floor is how it comes and either type of mat are an option.

That is news to me because i know they came with carpets standard on the 3rd generation. So it is just bare now even on a limited? no carpet so you just get everything dirty and it does not match the car. BARE? You have to pay for something so basic as carpet mats? I thought adding the all weather mats as an option would just add on to the standard carpet
