5th Gen No Response From Rear Wiper or Rear Defrost

Last night I had no rear wiper or rear defrost when I got in my 4Runner. I restarted the vehicle. Let it warm up and still nothing. I initially through it could have been due to cold weather we have been experiencing in the NE, it was zero last night when the incident occurred. However, this morning when it was -12 they were working again. Has anyone else experienced this before?

Try closing your rear window, if it's open even a whisker your wiper won't work.

Yep. Roll up your rear window.

Roll it all the way down, then back up, and hold for about 1-2 seconds. Then try wiper and defrost.

I had the same issue with mine earlier this year, I've tried a lot of stuff and after arriving to work it was working fine. I did play with the window so that may fixed the issue as others have said. My rear defrost button never activated while pressing the button.

Thanks Guys. I check the rear window last night and that must have been the trick. I never knew that would cause everything not to work, but it makes sense.

This happened to me within a month of getting mine. I must have bumped the switch by accident, since it was the middle of winter, but when I called the service rep she said to try the rear window and of course that did it!

I'm a little shocked they were actually honest and told you that, instead of conning you in to coming in for a service.
