5th Gen Official Complaint Thread to Toyota and Some Solutions

Haha! I can relate. My 1st gen Tundra is my daily. She's takes all the abuse and is too useful to get rid of.

I have a 16 SR5 with an actual key.

Do my doors lock when I get out of the car and walk away from it?

I swear it's happened, but I don't recall seeing that anywhere.

If not, that's a complaint ;)

Yes. I'm not sure if it's 30 or 60 seconds, but yes. I went back in to find my wallet and came back and it was locked with keys inside.

Have a non-starting key made and put it in a hide-a-key box which you stash under the truck. I stick mine on the skid plate. It has saved my butt a few times.

.

My 2010 SR5 will not lock unless I hit the lock switch on the door or the key fob. However, if I accidentally hit the unlock button on the key fob (which occasionally happens when I'm fumbling with things), the doors will lock 30 seconds after the button is pressed, if the door is not otherwise opened prior to the 30 seconds expiring.

I'm sure this has been posted before in this thread, but my (new to me) 2010 has the worse throttle lag when hitting the go pedal. My Tundra doesn't do this

It's driving me crazy

Oh and the horn. You guys thought that was funny eh?

Power liftgate as echoed would be great when my arms are loaded with gear, but how about something really simple- an illuminated back window switch, I cant see that area at night when driving and tend to fumble to feel it. I may put a low light led in the drivers side wall of the finger trough...unless a lighted switch can be had from perhaps a Lexus?

Also, how about the mirror mount mod the Taco guys use to get the mirror higher up out of view? Anyone done this for a 4Runner and if so, does it interfere with the Crawl Control access?

Sorry to bump an older thread but thought it was the most appropriate place to post without starting a new thread. FWIW just wanted to add my .02$. I have a 2015 SR5P, stock except for black TRD wheels.

My complaints are the following;

1. Paint/clear coat seems really thin and seems to catch scratches easily.
2. Hood seems really flimsy. Really noticeable on the highway and especially on windy days.
3. Interior trim plastic scratches really easily as well.
4. A lot of plastic in the front end. Every rock chip shows. Wish it had a bit more metal up front. (previously owned a 1st gen 4Runner and and a 2nd gen 4Runner) where the rock chips just deflected off the bumper.
5. Rusting on hitch receiver (is this normal after 2 years only? I've only used it once a few weeks ago for a bike rack)

Don't get me wrong, I love my 4R and mechanically has been perfect for the past 2 and a half years!

The only issue I had was a blown lift gate strut which was replaced free of charge under extended coverage.

The g/d steering wobble is a m'fer. Never in my life have I ever experienced such a thing on any vehicle I ever drove.

People are complaining about touchy steering. I have the EXACT opposite. Hard steering. Yet, still have steering wobble. WTF Toyota?

I think Toyota cut corners on this build outside of the brawn that is the 5th gen's M.O.

i think my hitch rusted in the first month

just get the small POR-15 kit and hit the hitch (be careful how much you use in the holes for the hitch pin)

POR-15® Super Starter Kit - Black

Brakes are hard to modulate and ''mushy'', armrests are too low and the wheel does not tilt low enough to rest my arm and hold the wheel on long trips. Compared to my Mule......it's a freakin' Rolls Royce!

Complaints relating to my 14 Limited;

1)DRL half powered high beams. Looks seriousllllly cheap. Need some LED strips.
2)Terribly uncomfortable seats. Feels like a church pew.
3)Self-tapping skid plate bolts strip out for oil changes. (Change the design or make a pass-through for the filter to avoid taking the plate off)
4)Blue metallic fleck in the black paint. Creamy off white paint looks blah too. Bright crisp arctic white would be much better.
5)No aux. input hidden in center console to hook up a device for music.
6)Insane wind noise from retracted sun roof when moving at speed.
7)Trailer pin hook up is too far recessed under the truck
8)Needs a front view camera

Regardless, its still the best truck! Nothing can ever be perfect.

Just a few little things that I'd like to see:

I miss the way the console lid flipped over like GEN 4. It gave me a way to eat my Egg McMuffin and still drive!

Wider tire on the limited; those 20's look like bike tires! And make them Michelins for god sakes!

The steering does have some issues. Seems a bit 'floaty' on the highway. (Makes it hard to let go of the wheel while I'm looking for my egg McMuffin that fell off the console lid because the lid no longer flips over)!

A V8 would be nice! Sorry the Lexus Is just too ugly to consider!

I wish Trd Pro had better factory clearance. Suppose that is just the downside of independent suspension as opposed to straight axles.

The low point is the straight axle. Independent suspension actually provides more clearance when you lift the suspension. When lifting the straight axle, you do not get any additional clearance from the suspension, just from larger tires.

How is there no simple compass on the SR5 stock?

Seriously. What was the decision process that gave us front tire orientation but no simple compass?

Can you swap out the center mounted clock for one from another model and have the compass work?

Not sure what model you have but mine has a compass.
