5th gen owner looking to add a 3rd gen. Thoughts on this?

Sell the 5th gen and get like 4 3rd gens!

In all seriousness though that 3rd gen does look pretty good. Kind of iffy though since it has no records. I suppose you should run a car fax and maybe even look up the Toyota owners website thing to see if there is anything. Thanks [MENTION=106706]MN4runnerman[/MENTION]. It looks like a great price and I figure I will have to act quick if I want it. I did as much research on here prior to posting as I could. Out of town with family till tomorrow and my wife already says I spend too much time on here while at home.
 
see if you can get it for a little less since it is over due for a timing belt. factory recommends every 90k miles or 8 years

Yeah this won't add any time to that! haha but yeah nice find, mostly look for bad cases of rust and the buyer guide listed above has the other 'achilles' items for 3rd gens. :cowboy:
 
I did briefly look at the buyers guide yesterday and saw the radiator/strawberry milkshake and a few other items. I just don't want to get into a money pit for a 3rd vehicle used only for pleasure. I imagine investing a few thousand into it if purchased on timing belt, water pump, radiator?, lift, wheels, tires.

You won't spend That much on the 'essentials' you mentioned (timing belt, water pump, radiator) yet add the OEM lower ball joints too. Now the non-essentials, yeah you can go ape on those items or reasonable. When I bought my 99 5speed a few months ago I dumped $1600 into it for a new radiator, new oem lbjs, new inner and outer tie-rods, water pump and timing belt, and some other little things. have a mechanic take a look at the radiator and if you get it add a transmission cooler and you'll never have to worry about it

That is a killer deal, assuming no major issues.

As the others say, look for rust. Other than that, it looks like a great deal.

I'd worry about the radiator swap and LBJs, and then drive it before adding a lift. That thing is crazy-capable in stock form :) If you do want to clear some higher obstacles and get really serious, then a lift and sliders would be great.
 
[MENTION=121677]kpinthebay[/MENTION] I am in FL until 1 pm tomorrow. I actually fly in to CVG which is about 15 min from the listing. I told my wife, if it is still there when we arrive, I am finding the closest PNC and purchasing.

Just a heads up on this. Some of us Cincy guys keep an eye on CL for 4Runners and checked this one out earlier in the week. I didn't see it in person but it's from Michigan and has pretty bad rust on the underside and the interior was not anything to write home about. This is coming from my buddy who has a 2wd 3rd Gen with over 200k on his and is looking for a 4wd. Evidently he was checking it out at the same time as another possible buyer and they both walked.

Not trying to be a buzz kill. Just sharing what I've heard about this truck.
