Here's a thread I posted up like a month ago or something. The TRD uses the same springs as regular 5th gens so you'll see results like mine and [MENTION=116470]Tyler James Inc[/MENTION]

5th gen shocks will work because they mount the same way, but they are definitely longer than our 3rd gens are, like a couple inches. I run the ones off the TRDP and before my lift they were always sitting like 2 inches of stroke from being bottomed out but I only had them like that for like 2 weeks, now because of that extra length my rear axle can flex extremely well. Struts were way too long and I'm not sure if they have the same top plate bolt pattern.

As for the 4th gen shocks I couldn't tell you because I have no experience with them... However, the 5th gen rear springs will lift you slightly and get rid of any sag and give it a little bit of rake. I measured like 22" hub/fender in the rear with them on

They will- that's what I am currently running- but you will have to separate the lower bushing from the large washer it's molded to. Either that, or drill out your upper shock mounts to accept the bigger ID. That's much more permanent, and not what I chose to do.

Without the washer, the rubber fits in the stock upper hole perfectly-

I ended up going with FJ rears after seeing the pair side by side. There wasn't much difference (maybe 5th gen 1mm thicker?) so I went with the less used ones. Unfortunately I don't have any measurements for you but can show you what it looks like with FJ's springs all around and Bilstein 5100 (first notch in front)

2010 springs

The 4runner pictured here is not mine but I sold these springs from a 2010 to him. He said about 1 in in the front and 2in rear. Said ride was substantially improved. He cut the front struts and re-welded them to make them fit. He said it wasn't worth the work due to the minimal improvement for the strut. He did use the rears as bolt on though. I'm going to be doing mine next weekend with FJ rears from a 2013 and fronts from a 2017 4runner. I'm doing 4runner 5100's all around. I'm using the energy suspension isolators rather than the stock rubber ones which measure about 3/8" thick. Not sure if I'm going to go on the bottom notch or first notch of the fronts yet. The FJ springs I have measured about 1/4" taller than the 4runner rears I sold.

4BUMR could you advise the center hub to bottom of fender measurement on each corner.

It's also posted on this other thread. About 2" rear with 2013 FJ springs and 1.75" front with 2017 4runner springs on 4runner Bilstein 5100's set at zero on front. I did not end up using the Energy Suspension Poly coil isolators so the rubber ones are in there.

Found a set of 2016 "trail" shocks and springs for sale near me. If the shocks are that much longer, I wonder if it would be a better idea to go woth a different shock; or if that would be opening a can of worms trying to match everything together. I dont do any heavy off roading, so Im wondering if the 2016 shock/spring combo would work well for me to refresh the ass end.

I’m rolling with 2016 SR5 coils in the rear, and billy 4600’s. Great height, awesome setup. Not too stiff, not too soft.

They are longer, for sure. The 4th/5th gen has the shocks outboarded, so they use a longer shock to keep a reasonable amount of travel. Those shocks and coils would be a great ass-refresher, but I would flex the rear out to make sure you hit your bump stops before the shocks bottom out. [emoji1360] I am actually currently running those shocks on my '01 with 3.5" coils. I can't hit my bump stops before my tire hits my quarter, but the shocks don't bottom out before the tire hits. You may have to read that a couple times, but- in summery- I haven't been able to bottom my 5th gen shocks out while flexing, but I'm running 315/70R17 tires.

Looks great! Aren't they awesome?
They are a perfect spring if you're looking to sit at that height. I loved them on my '97 when I lowered it to "stock" height to sell.

I have no plans to go to a bigger tire, and I have airbags for my rear coils that I have not yet installed.

So I wonder if the 5th gen springs would pair up with 4600's.

springs on my 99 and found a set of rear shocks from a 5th gen trd pro. will these work on my rear?

Coils will, front shocks won't, rear will with a little modification but you run the risk of the spring falling out at full flex.

I like em with the KYBs. I've never knowingly ridden on a vehicle with the 5100's so I can't comment to what difference there might be. Compared to the beat up stock springs and shitty Monroe shocks it rides a lot more like how I think a 4Runner should. Stiff but not harsh, and the perfect amount of lift for what I use it for.

Hey sorry for the months long delay in getting back to you. I did run the 5th gen springs but pretty sure my 5100s are the 4runner specific ones. I also had a set of FJ cruiser fronts & rears that I played with and ultimately went with the FJ rears as they were slightly thicker (both metal thickness and width) and gave what I thought was a great ride. Both are great CHEAP upgrades over our old saggers.

How much lift did you get, or what is your current hub to fender lip measurement ?

What year or model 5th gen F/R coils did you get
