Sounds great but wonder if it will carry the $5,500 price tag the one for the 4th gen has, owch! I would love the extra 'umph' but can't justify that cost. Wish it was closer to the 1k it cost to upgrade to the v8 in my last truck and my wife's new one. Oh well, can't have everything but I guess that is why there is a lottery :)

My guess is that the $5,500 price tag is probably in the neighborhood. I don't think it is unreasonable given the very limited production run and the amount of time/r&d that goes into designing, tweaking, and tuning the system. A lot of "mass production" FI systems for modern cars approach that price.

With that said, I met the main guy from URD several weeks ago at an FJ Cruiser event and the guy is very passionate about this work and doing things the right way.

Gadget is a very cool guy. From what I guess it'll mirror the 4th gen system very closely, expect for tuning and various bits like intercooler mounts, etc. It has some nice potential with the dual VVT-i.

I see a group buy in the near future!! Just don't know if it will be carb legal for us Cali guys.

What are the horsepower and torque gains?

URD site doesn't have that anywhere I can find. But here's what TRD publishes for their supercharged 1GR 4.0 motor. Seems reasonable to assume the Dual VVTi might surpass this.

POWER
The 1GR supercharger output is rated at 304HP @ 5,400 RPM and 334lb/ft of torque at 3,600 RPM at the flywheel

Guessing you'll know fairly soon - don't see how URD can announce without some performance numbers.

S/b interesting.

Regardless the price, which I'm sure will be competitive and reasonable, it will come with the MOST INCREDIBLE customer service and support. For those that don't know Gadget, he's been doing S/C modifications and tuning since the late 90's. He was the first person to fix the TRD S/C pinging issues on the 3.4L's and to this day is still one of the only people who knows the in's and out's of the Toyota S/C'ers.

If you purchase from URD/Gadget.........you will get a quality product with incredible support.

Yeah, and what'll it cost for installation?

True, but then again if you have the cash to spend on the unit itself the cost of installation is probably not too much of a concern.

I admit this is on my 'dream on wish list'! Can't wait to see the 1st 4R with it installed (and how soon they need new tires!)

Power wise on the URD 4runner with ALL FOUR cats (stage 1) it made 360 RWHP and 380 FT-LBS. This is using the newer C38-81 blower. If you went to the 91 series (with a built motor) you would make MUCH more. I've also been in a URD charged FJ with the same system that had 35's lift and bumpers and it was still pretty fast.

I guess I have a question for those of you who have more experience in boosting motors...I'm not trying to take away from anyone's excitement over this or cause a ridiculous debate I'm just curious...

What does a mod like this do to the longevity of my motor? Does it go from being a 300K motor to a 150K or less? The engine is all aluminum right? Can it take the type of boost you have to give in order to make HP gains?

I'm not taking anything away from URD or Gadget, I've heard great things about both, but from someone who wants their 4Runner to last as long as possible, how much life are we really taking away?

Please don't respond with "if you're worried about it then don't get it" because I can say for certain that I probably won't get it...I just want to hear some opinions from those who have more experience then me! Thanks!

As long as you don't go crazy with boost on a high compression motor you will be fine. I am pushing 10 lbs of boost on my Corvette (as are plenty others) and don't see any ill effects. I know a few owners that have over 70000 miles of "always on it" without trouble while being boosted, again, within reason. If you crank up the boost for MAX hp expect bad things. I figure 6 - 8 lbs of boost will net a 60 - 70 rwhp gain and still be safe and not effect the long life of the motor.
