5th gen supercharger news ?

Why was the other thread closed after someone posted up asking a question today?

I have an 03 v8 with TRD supercharger with full Borland and love it. Great vehicle - still have it. It dynoed 253 at the wheels - which considering all time 4 wheel drive was pretty good. Torque came in over 350 or 390 can't quite recall off top of my head.
Beat many a mustang 5.0 in 1/8th mile at the Friday night drags. Raced brand new mustang boss 302 with my 70 year old parents in the truck with me over Xmas - on the street - bumper to bumper up to 60 ish- pretty sure MR. mustang didn't like it.


I just got a 16 and spent many hours looking for the mythical 5th gen supercharger. TRD had it listed with part numbers but was told by dealer it never was released for the 4Runner.- I don't quite understand since the taco has the same motor
If I understand correctly TRD killed the whole supercharger program few months back for all models.

the TRD performance program is relegated to wheels , oils caps, brake pads, and other do nothing items. Why bother having a performance Toyota program that doesn't offer anything performance related.

I will be honest my 16 is a turd- the thing feels slow as hell- you have to mash the pedal get anything and there is a ridiculous delay. Went to do a left turn across traffic - hit the gas and nothing happened - thought the thing was stalling so i braked and didn't turn- for fear getting t-boned.

You turn into the street and right rear tire drops off a little curb or into a pot hole and the electronics kick in disabling the gas peddle. I don't like this at all.

Might have to look at the sprint boosters to change the gas pedal engagement ratios. Or face the fact I have a mini van engine - with mini van transmission ratios.

Been eyeballing the URD site wondering why they haven't fill the obvious void left by TRD - especially since they left a trail of teaser bread crumbs ? I would buy one if they had one.

All that seems to be available is y-pipe- exhaust - maybe headers and CAI- which when Said and done maybe nets 10-25 hp - which instantly evaporates when you thrown on some 285's

That would be 20 years ago me and 3 best friends would take yearly trips to NC outer banks to 4x4 camp and surf - as broke students we would pool our money for gas and food literally buying only PB&J - ramen and cheap bread - if we had an extra dollar we would buy a box of Little Debbie's Oatmealpies for desert - we joked we were sponsored by Little Debbie's - hence Team Oatmeal Pie. We were so poor- we didn't have many choices back then.

We once got stuck on the Ohio toll road and had to look for change to pay our toll to get off and came up short - the toll both attendant told us to beat it and comped the 75 cents or what ever it was we were short.


Those were good times - lean but fun- we had A 4x4 ranger 3 surfboards and a week in Cape Hatteras. Barely enough $ to get there an back - but jeez what an epic time. We did that trip about 6 years in a row.


Now back to superchargers - horsepower is good- And I want more-

Buddy just bought an 03 land cruiser 4.7l v8 with TRD supercharger with 100k on the clock - 1 owner vehicle for under $20k. He called asking if should do it- I said hell yeah you just found a unicorn - yep he got it and loves it- especially coming off previous LC with inline 6.

One of my neighbors has a 5th gen, and honestly compared to my 3rd gen they are SO FREAKING HUGE... that you would think as a non-Toyota person that vehicle has GOT to be either Supercharged, V8'd, or has some huge diesel engine in it, or a combo among the 3.
