5th Gen wheel on 4th Gen - what TPMS sensors to use?

Hi all
This is regarding a 2006 Limited V8 4x4

I am looking at either a new set of Bronze TRD Pro wheels:

or a locally available set of take offs of these Trail edition take offs with factory tires and TPMS:

Questions:
1.) For the TRD Pro wheels - should I buy oem equivalent TPMS sensors for the 4th gen (i.e. from rock auto or toyota directly)? I assume they will be programmed for the car BUT will they fit the wheels? I am new to the world of TPMS so I don't know if any of them are wheel-specific for a given wheel or valve stem design etc.

2.) For the factory take offs - any idea if the included TPMS are compatible w the 4th gen?

According to this Toyota dealer's part website the 5th Gen TPMS sensor should be compatible with all 4th Gens, and vice versa, at least up to 2017/2019.

There's 2 different sensors listed as fitting the 2006 T4R, here are the 2 links, if you scroll further down each page it lists compatible vehicles, one is compatible from 2004 to 2017, the other from 2004 to 2019.

That being said you will however have to have any new or used sensors paired up/programmed to your T4R's TPMS ECU otherwise they will not function, most tire companies/stores should be able to program the new sensor, also of course any Toyota dealership can do it as well.

The reason a new to your vehicle sensor has to be programmed to your vehicle's TPMS ECU is otherwise it would be sensing tire pressure from other Toyota vehicles with the same compatible sensors close to your vehicle and their sensors sensing yours.

So the answer is yes 5th Gen sensors will work as well as new sensors.....after they're programmed.

wondering, what electronic system complications might arise if one or more sensor is off-line (say dead batteries)? would the computer system throw other dash lights besides TPMS?

No only the TPMS light comes on, it affects no other system.

wonder why. if the computer is being told you have multiple low tire pressures, would it not possibly disable some functions that it doesn't think would operate properly if engaged? just thinking.

The TPMS ECU is a totally separate computer and not connected to any other systems, it's only purpose is for low tire pressure alerts, for the most part if your tire are in good condition you can drive your vehicle somewhat safely for a short time with tire pressures as low as 10 PSI, it's best not to do so but it can be done.

I wouldn't recommend driving at interstate speeds with that low of a pressure but for anything under 50 MPH it usually not an issue.

In some other brands it does/has disabled things, I recall hearing about some specific Nissan (I think? It's been a while) that when the TPMS detected a low tire it would put the vehicle into a sort of Limp Mode until you fixed the issue.

But for Toyota it just sets a light to have you check your tires.
