5thGen SR5 Helicopter NOISE

Here's a new noise. Roll down the two rear passenger seat side windows and excellerate up to 60-70 mph. Keep all other windows rolled up except for the rear two side windows. It sounds like I'm in a Helicopter. I believe the loud noise that I hear is coming from the moon roof slider shaking in the wind. Not sure, but its awful and something in the roof is designed very poorly. Please check it out and let me know if I'm the only one with this Helicopter noise problem. A response would be highly appreciated.

That's it! Totally normal SUV thing.
It was really,really bad on the 4th gen I had and started about 30-40mph.Not near as bad on the 5th's as the back kinda angles in more I guess.
I about had a fit with my kids opening up just their window in the back at speed before. It would actually hurt your ears.

Yeah its not new to vehicles. My 06 Corolla, and 05 4runner do that and its not limited to just Toyota.

Yep, My F250 has the same sounds with rear windows down

I had my 2 front windows, down a little bit, and the rear half way. Rolled up the rear and the front drivers on auto but manual on the front passenger. I guess it did not go 100% up so @ about 40mph it created this HORRIBLE LOUD whistle, and when I say loud I mean jump out of your seat and look around for an emergency vehicle! I was able to duplicate it, and I am sure you can to. Just barely tap the window down a hair around 45mph, and WOW! You may have to play with it a few times but when you get it right you will know. I guess that is one way to let you know it is not totally up, I'm sure the engineers meant for that to happen

Thanks everyone that replied. Yes, this is my first moon roof. My old SUV didnt make any noise but it didnt have a moonroof either. I guess the engineers just don't know how to engineer a moonroof that won't make noise? lol.lol Maybe I'll trade it in for one without a moon roof, could have saved a grand.....or just concreat this one in place....lol...... Its not the moonroof. my pathfinder was worse.

Ditto, not the moon or sun roof. My SR5 does the same thing, and I have a solid roof.

A simple way to combat this is to drop the rear window down a inch or more... the sound pretty much goes away and the wind sounds @ the sunroof are reduced - this is especially useful when driving on the interstate.

I agree 100%. If any of my windows are down, I will always crack the rear window a few inches. Another combo I have done is Passenger Front + Driver Rear when i'm driving solo.

This happened on my 95 T4R as well. It's worse on my 2010 TE, but I don't run with the windows down much, so it seldom happens. Opening the moonroof help.
