Anyone have any advice or even possibly a write-up on the replacement of a 5VZ-FE, just want a heads up on what I'm getting myself into.

It shouldnt take more than a couple hours, get off the 3 engine mounts, disconnect all the wiring and lines, and lift the engine out, My dad and i did it today on his jetta. You will need an engine lift, and a shop is very helpful too.

I didnt say anything engine specific and there is a lot more wiring and tubing going on with the 1.9tdi which is in the jetta. I said a couple hours, meaning like 5 or 6.

It takes me 45 mins to pull a heavy ass straight 6 engine with the transmission bolted to it out of a Cressida or Supra. Its very easy to do. Disconnect drive shafts, pull wire harness out of the firewall, disconnect the fuel lines, intake, coolant hoses, power steering lines, drop the A/C compressor so you don't have to recharge your A/C and hook that bad boy to the hoist, unbolt the mounts and its out.
 
Yotatech would be the best place to look, followed by ih8mud. Those forums are huge and hold treasure troves of information.

I have never swapped a 5VZ-FE. I would imagine it would be pretty easy,as far as swaps go. Stock to stock is no big deal. The hardest thing will probably bo calibrating the sensors. Sorry I could not be of more help.
 
I bought my runner with a blown motor and swapped in one from Japan. Heres my thread from YT with a couple pictures of what you can expect.

The biggest PITA was getting the motor onto the transmission and then hooking up the flywheel, turned my arms into jello. If I could do it again I would just pull it with the trans.
 
I've done it a few times on mine unfortunately. Today I am atually putting in an engine and along the way I can try and get as many pics as possible and post them up tonight.

The biggest pain is def mating the transmission and engine together. Its incredibly tight and just hard to manuever.

I have never taken a motor out myself and I did it on my own the first time. Its definately do-able if you have some mechanical skills.
 
Ill see what I can do.. It might take longer than just today to get the motor in. I woke up later than I wanted to today and still had some work to do on the front end and the dual battery tray So I didn't get started switching parts over from the old engine to the new engine until around 12 or 1 ish..

And its..... kinda my wifes birthday lol.. So I have to spend some time with her.

that long to swap out a 1.9? man you is taking your time and watching reruns of MASH? ive pulled a 1.9 into my bay in the morning and swapped it out with a new motor and driven it out the same day all put back together, what takes you so long !? lol

P is gonna kill you if you spend all day out in the garage... get your ass back in the house, get cleaned up and take her out to a nice dinner...
 
Lol.. she wants it running just as much as I do though and we are out right now actually. Apple bees for happy hour for pt. Lol
