6.5" Kappas in a 3rd Gen

Hey,

First time poster--thanks in advance for any help.

I just upgraded the head unit in my 2000 4runner to an Alpine CDA-9831. I'm really happy by the minor improvement that I saw in speaker performance, but now I'm looking to upgrade a little more.

After speaking to some friends and the folks at Good Guys, I purchased the following:

Front: Infinity Kappa 60.5cs 6.5" Components
Rear: Infinity Kappa 62.5i

These are my questions:
1. Has anyone installed these speakers in the 2000 4runner? Were any custom fabs or special mounts needed?

2. Am I definitely going to need an amp for this setup? I hear these speakers are power hungry?

3. Any general advice or comments on this setup?

great choice of speakers......i plan on getting kappa components and the kappa 3-ways in my 4th gen powered by an infinity reference amp. even though alpine units have a lot of juice, i would suggest that you get an amp to power them. welcome to the forum!!

Kappa's definitely need an amp to get the best out of them. You are probably going to want to add a subwoofer to your system now too.

That is what I am afraid of. I am definitely getting hooked and my wife is definitely getting pissed. :arrow: That isn't a love arrow through my head.

I'm worried about the install of the 6.5"s in the rear doors. I forgot to mention that this is a 2000 4runner limited if that makes any difference in the stock speaker size.

I don't know anything about speaker size so I can't help you there, but you'll be happy with your Infinity speakers. While they will sound best with an aftermarket amp, you will still get very good sound out of them even with the built in headunit. I had a friend with Infinity speakers on a Sony head unit (which is deathly underpowered) and they still sounded good, so an Alpine would do even better. If you're looking for the best sound, however, then go with an amp.
