6.5” sub in liftgate?

While not optimal solution, has anyone place a dedicated sub in the liftgate?

There appears to be enough room to mount 6.5” subs to give a boost to the low end without breaking the bank or impinging on cargo space.

I did it. It was very underwhelming. With 6.5" subs, the bass response was very hit or miss depending on what was being played. Not only that, but we dynamatted the hell out of the lift gate to ensure maximum seal. Well, that made the lift gate ridiculously heavy and unless you changed the struts, the gate would not stay open. Even now, with heavy duty struts, my girlfriend can barely open that thing (although to be fair, there is a gobi ladder on it now too).

Personally, i'd go with a more custom option and try to squeeze in a 10" somewhere on the side.

Earthquake Sound SWS 6.5 + JL Audio amp

There weren't a lot of options for shallow mount subs that small. It can't be too big otherwise you can't roll down your back window.

I took them out after about a week because I just didn't care for them. Replaced with Focals in the rear and just shoved a Kicker hideaway sub under the front passenger seat. (for now). Will eventually have a custom box made in the right rear fender.

You would be much better off with 8" in the doors than 6.5" in the rear gate. Even an 8" in the rear cubby would be a lot better.
