$6,500 later - Oh what a feeling!

While having my 'Runner in to get the Cadillac converter replaced as per the TSB, they also replaced:

Lumbar support motor replaced $540
Crackling tweeter speaker replaced $147
New drive shaft (clunk) $544
Trip computer replaced $960

Got the trip computer replaced because an LED was flickering, but they said it was the board. Hey - maybe the new one won't be off so much!

Speaker still crackles - might be head unit.

Previously they've replaced about $4,000 in items (parts & labor): bad tachometer; bad transfer case shifter; bad traction control computer.

This brings the total of warranty fixes up to around $6,500. :awais: Not bad for buying a 100k mile Platinum Toyota warranty for $700! (although I could do without all the problems!) :bash:

Oh, the stink bug TSB repair was $1036. At this point I recommend everyone gets it done before the 80k mile cutoff. :biggrin2:

yeah, my frozen calipers were replaced under warranty. That and the catalytic convert about evens it out for me.

I also have a 2003 4runner with 75K miles on it. I never had a problem with anything stinking up like other owners have, should I go in anyways to get this TSB? Will I be eligible even if I don't have the 100K mile warranty?


Is there a link to all other TSBs for our 4runners?

You get a free, new catalytic converter, and they reprogram your computer - so why not!?

Someone else know where this TSB link is? I think it might be in the warranty section.

I would stick to the aint broke = don't fix school of thought.

Some have the stink to an extent after the fix, so if yours don't stink....I'd be inclined to enjoy my luck and leave it the crap alone

Maybe I miss a thread or two, but TeryT how did you get Toy to replace your driveshaft? All I've been hearing is that the clunk is normal and just require frequent lubing. I do remember reading one of your more recent post regarding how we all should make a big fuss to Toy to get a TSB issued for the driveshaft clunk or something along the lines of that. Also, when you say your trip computer backlight is flickering, do you mean the one below your speedometer or the one above the HVAC controls which displays outside temp, mpg, miles to empty, etc.? If it's the latter, I have the same issue and I recall other people having that problem too. Any additional input is much appreciated! I might want to get mine fixed too. thx n adv

I lubed my driveshaft with amsoil 2000 this past weekend. The clunk has gone away - FINALLY!!!

which drive shaft are we talking about? The one that goes to the front diff, or the propeller shaft to the rear?

The trip computer - above HVAC controls. I had not seen that other's had the flickering light problem.

The drive shaft is the one to the rear wheels. Supposedly just replacing it is not the total fix, as the Lexus GX470 also gets new control arms to make the clunk stop - but we shall see.

The "lube" is the full warranty, which covered everything (except the TSB, which was also covered).

Oh I missed the warranty part. Good call My display flickers every now and then as well, I've never really thought anything of it.
