6-cyl For Base Model

In my base model 1997, I would like to replace my 4 cylinder with a 6 cylinder and maybe replace the standard transmission with automatic. Is this doable without using a cutting torch, etc.?

I can't tell you for sure, because I haven't undertaken such a project, but I would think it would be much cheaper to sell your current 4Runner and buy one with the options you're looking for.

If you're set on doing an engine swap, perhaps swap in a V8 like [MENTION=59542]Singtoe[/MENTION] did?

My advice would be that if you don't know what the job entails, then you are not ready to perform the swap.

Sell the vehicle you have, and buy one that is equipped the way you want.

+1 on the sell and buy another. V6 automatics are about as rare as a WALMART where I am. At least 10+ on CL at a time. those 2.7's are desirable for the mpg. Goodluck!

The 4 cylinder 5 speed will sell quick, at least they do around here.
