6 inch lift on 5th Gens

Hey fellas: sorry if this is a duplicate. I know the discussion of using 6" FJ lifts (Procomp & FabTech) has been brought up but I've never actually seen it done. These guys are doing it on Hawaii and saying that it's a straight bolt on with some minor modifications on the rear lifts (weld). Anyone have actual experience with the above lifts on friend's, yours, etc?

6" body lift does nothing for the front cross member hanging what just 9 inches off the ground.

also putting all that top heavy weight that high off the ground just makes it easier to tip over on the trails.

drop bracket lifts are garbage because you dont gain any ground clearance, just the look of being higher up, save that for the mall parking lots

I think there is a guy on here from Japan rocking one. Wheels it too.

But yes you don't gain much ground clearance since you drop everything down.

I wheeled with an FJ with the 6" procomp lift (I think that is what it was)... Some girl who had just purchased from a dealer. It had 35" MTs... which still rubbed. It also had those n-fab steps LOL.

Overall it did OK, but was not impressive on the traction side of things for the tires it had on it. It did clear everything with ease (great approach and departure angles)

In fairness, you do gain the ability to clear tires and get better overall body and ground clearance as a result of that kind of lift. Not so great on center of gravity or articulation...

We were doing pretty easy trails that day and I did walk right up stuff she struggled with. But then again it was her first time to off-road LOL, so no real comparison. It looked like it would do pretty well in an experienced drivers hands. And I cheated with my lockers a few times.

But I though Artic rigs only ran a small coilover lift if any lift at all. I thought it was all fender mod and clearance.

I think the rig in the picture I linked probably does. But I swear I have seen subframe lifts to get some of those 40"+ tires on those arctic vehicles.
