60k Mile Service

So I just crested 60k miles on the 4runner...are there any services needed at this time (aside from regular maintenance like oil changes, lube the chassis, etc)? I haven't referenced the manual yet, so I figured I'd get your honest opinions first :P

Thanks in advance!

Haha, bought it from an old lady that had it in her garage (she enjoyed driving her 2006 Avalon better) in 2012 with 22k miles...spent less than $1k/1k miles...I was stoked on the score! Since then, we've just been driving a little bit everyday...like 20 miles max...so it's in great shape and will last a long while yet...longer than we'll probably keep it unfortunately :P

I digress, is there anything I need to worry about for service intervals as I'm now just past 60k miles?

here is similar thread, i would do most of the same things mentioned here. even though mileage is low its still an older vehicle with older fluids.

i do most items every 30k except oil is every 5k

Noted, thank you for the link and suggestions...the brakes are doing well...the transmission still shifts buttery-smooth so I may hold off on that...plus, aren't these "sealed" transmissions? Either way, a coolant flush and front and rear diff fluids are a good thing to swap out...thanks again!

there is a lot of debate/threads on the tranny fluid. do a search on those and decide. I ended up doing the drain/fill and will do so every 30k. rad fluid. brake fluid. gear boxes. all of them every 30k simple drain and fill. all of them you can DIY and makes for cheap insurance.

I personally feel there is no debate on this. The "sealed" transmission IS serviceable. Seeing that it hasn't been touched in 10 years would lead me to call around for a Toyota "fluid exchange". Shouldn't cost more than $300. Piece of mind is cheap.

Anyway, I believe Toyota suggests to change the (ATF) fluid at 100,000 after "severe" use, which we all know that is BS.

I also saw that (consensus) is to change the ATF at 100,000 and every 50,000 thereafter.

Coolant drain and fill without a doubt every 30,000 or 3 years.

People seem to forget these fluids degrade over time EVEN if mileage is low. It is cheap insurance worst case scenario, IMO.

Good luck

use all OEM parts and fluids only. as stated things break down over time.. sealed transmission is a nice idea but its not fact. Do a drain and fill at the dealer and id do that about every 3 to 5 years at a minimum. Diffs and transfer case switch to synthetic 75w90. change the cabin filter. grease everything in the drive line with high quality synthetic grease. If you do this.. you can go a million miles.

60k? was it in a time warp bubble for ten years?

When I got my 1st '07 V8 - it had approx. 68k miles with superb maintenance history with one owner. Guy was Indian so knowing how they are in general, they take care of their cars as if it was their home. Unfortunately fast forward to 4 months later, it ended up getting totaled due to idiot drivers behind me.

I settled on buyout price with insurance and eventually found a '07 V6 with 44k miles on it few months later 4 hours away from me. Again, superb maintenance history but this time it was an older engineer who had the 4R for weekend trips / backup driver on snow days. Underbody inspection went well as expected. Other than that, he had an Audi as his daily so needless to say I lucked out twice finding solid '07 4Rs in a single year.

My next 4R will be a V8 '07 with low miles or a '10 Trail 5th gen with the hood scoop (only if I get totaled again...)

Both lucky finds, not sure how you went from the v8 to a v6 without feeling like you lost a part of your soul but a clean truck is a clean truck. id go with another 4th gen v8 before you jump to a 5th gen.

Thank you for the suggestions on maintenance! I will swap new fluid in the transmission, coolant system, and the rear diffs...thanks again and here's to many more miles ahead!

I'd have held out longer for a v8 if I had the luxury of time on my side! Unfortunately this was not the case with the 2nd purchase but needless to say I'm more than satisfied with the purchase though. A clean truck is a clean truck indeed.

I searched within 500 miles radius and that was pushing it...I'm sure most people would not mind flying cross country to pick up a 4R but that would not have worked well for me in case something went wrong with the 4R post sale. I paid for the 4R in full so that's a lot of money up front to spend on an used car to begin with

I would have preferred a V8 as well since I drove a '04 & '07 with V8 engine. The engine power was awesome and handy at times but I still like the V6 as well :) - if my '07 ended up being totaled, I'd definitely start with V8 4Rs before looking at 5th gen. Only if they came out with a v8 option for 5th gen...
