Ndcent reminds me of what Senator Obama said of Senator Clinton in his first election. "She will say anything and do nothing."

Maybe ndcent should run for president in the next election. We have had a coward for the last 2 so why not go 3 out of 4

Well, I wasn't originally going to post anything but this thread has been at times comical.

First, as a law enforcement officer, if there are members here who think there is some kind of systemic "brutality" happening, feel free to step up and take calls with me. I will not say "brutality" doesn't exist; after all, human beings are policing their fellow citizens, and human beings are never perfect. But I will say it is very rare when consider the levels of "brutality" and criminality among the general population. Agencies (the vast majority) do their very best to screen out undesireable candidates for LEO positions. But no screening system is perfect (since the system is created by law enforcement).

I also have no problem if Kaepernick wants to protest. I just think it's laughable that he's protesting something that respects the lives of the military members (and not necessarily our government) who gave portions of -- or the entirety of -- their lives defending our freedoms... but then claims he loves the U.S. military. He has a factually inaccurate opinion about law enforcement in the U.S., but he can have that opinion. It's just that his "protest" has nothing to do with his factually inaccurate "opinion" or his "life experiences".

I can say, though, after getting into a law enforcement-only FB discussion yesterday (along with some other ponderings I've had about law enforcement versus some supposedly victimized class of citizen), I came away a bit shocked. I might start my own "off topic" thread about that later. What I realized is that no matter whether a use-of-force situation is justified or not, whether protesters/rioters are correct or not, it is that there are some blacks in this county that FEEL the way they do about law enforcement. The facts are mostly irrelevant when it comes to emotions. So the question is, what really is the causation for some blacks feeling the way they do, and how do communities and law enforcement reach out and make changes that will have a positive affect on those perceptions? I'm thinking this has more to do with socio-economics and not law enforcement, along with poor minorities being used as pawns by politicians on a near-constant basis.

Personally, I wished we could stop putting some kind of label on people for racial reasons, since race is predominantly based on geography. The only people who benefit from creating racial cliques are the politicians (and lately, it is mostly the liberal politicians doing so).

Just my rant/$.02.

Sociol economics is most definitely the most important factor. Whenever I have a discussion with people, that is where we inevitably land. And it's unmistakable. I do feel though it is important to make sure race is still discussed because too many of those social economic factors have very racial undertones that are not by accident (at least in my humble opinion).

Very correct. The urban flight decades ago (and the businesses that followed rapidly) is a good example.

Now, we have an hugely imbalanced trade and taxation problem nationally, and the politicians pointing their fingers at each other for this problem. Companies move/manufacture overseas, the gov't taxing the businesses and corporations that stay and produce here (rather than the ones that leave and/or produce overseas), etc., all builds and builds. Combine that with the remnants of urban flight (low-income, lack of employment opportunities for the inner city folks), and I kinda' think you have the disaster we have now.

It could be looked at as a disaster or as a boiling point. One at least has the potential for movement towards a more positive end. But it takes all of us to admit faults both within that system and within the system we have established within ourselves. That's where my cynical side comes out and believes it's never going to happen in my lifetime. What's my solution? That cynical side is saying f it. Just get me to my little hut in Mexico and let me surf my years away. But my optimistic side still holds onto some hope.

Maybe not on course with the thread theme, but...

Couple of days ago I was yacking with an in-law. His fiancee's son had just graduated from USMC boot camp. He and his fellow graduates were told that some of them would soon be training for Martial Law duty.

Reservists have been known to do get involved with riot/protest control - Kent State University 1970, etc. Maybe not Martial Law, but feeling like it perhaps.

It's entirely possible the term "martial law" was his interpretation.

Huge difference between martial law and riot control.

That said, it's eerie to think regulars could be training for this sort of thing.

Now that's interesting (if interpreted correctly by the recent grad), might be related to the November election outcome.

With the bunch that's in the White House now and HRC knocking on the door, it wouldn't really surprise me if they pulled this on us, especially if Trump wins.

As for me, I'm stocking up on ammo.

I don't blame you, but suspect that any sort of govt. intervention is going to occur in large population areas..ie..LA, Detroit; Baltimore, etc. - basically any place prone to the rioting we've seen lately.

Grants, N. M. is not likely a target

Yeah, I'll agree that Grants is pretty low on the list. It'll definitely be the big cities first.
