$75 EBay LC80 Snorkel on 4th gen

I wanted to start a new thread for those who are interested in using a 80 series snorkel on their 4th gen, specifically the 4.7. I had never heard of doing this until last week when I read another thread on the forum here. If I would have known a snorkel would be this cheap, I probably would have done this along time ago. The plan is to update this thread ASAP as soon as I have the installation complete. (Hopefully tomorrow)

I began prepping for the job today. The only special tools I picked up were a hole saw set and riviter from harbor freight. The snorkel didn’t come with instructions, but did come with a template (which I realize may not be accurate). The first thing I’m seeing here that may need some fabrication is the elbow that connects the air box to the snorkel. It is a flexible angled rubber piece. I’m not quite visualizing how it is going to work. It seems a 4” straight PVC pipe would work better?

I was hoping to not need any additional pieces, but hopefully someone who has done this before can chime in ?

So in case you didn't know, there is some evidence that the 80 Series snorkel does not have proper airflow for the 4.7 V8. I went with the Tacoma Safari snorkel for this reason because it has a larger diameter that is in line with the diameter of the stock airbox. There is a reason why those snorkels are so cheap. I can tell by looking at it that the intake diameter is tiny compared to the Tacoma Safari one.

The only issue with the Tacoma one is that you have to do some internal routing behind the fender to get it to work. I was able to do this with some plumbing parts from Home Depot.

Also, you get what you pay for. The plastic on the cheap ones is generally low quality and will start to fade/crack after a while.

Not trying to talk you out of it, but you should definitely look into the airflow needs that the 4.7 has. Restrict that flow and you are going to get low performance and probably take a mpg hit.

Thanks for the replies. I decided not to install this snorkel. I measured the snorkel tubing at 2.56” diameter. I believe the 4.7 throttle body diameter is 2.9” diameter. Thankfully the eBay seller has free returns! I’m trying to figure out what the LC100 snorkel diameter is. If I have to fork out the money for a Taco Safari I will probably hold off for now.

This kit seems to be the one to use until Safari gets one done for the 4th gen. I have read a few posts where these have worked just fine.
