85 4R steering problem

We have owned a T4R for 5 years. Recently i have noticed that the steering is feeling vauge on cornering. The car is a leaf spring type. I have noticed that the steering arm that runs along the leaf spring to the steering box has a spring in the end. When I turn the steering wheel, this spring compresses before the wheels start to turn. My guess is that this is happening while cornering. I have replaced the Moly lube in the front hubs but this made no difference. Could the spring in the link be broken or old and week? Over inflating the tyers made a difference.

The drag link has a spring loaded socket at each end that mate with balls on the j-arm and pittman arm. The socket pieces wear and are replaceable. You can also increase the tension on the springs via the large screw at each end, a good place to start.
You may have to soak it all with penetrant for a while first, they are known to rust in place (both the screw and socket inside).
