I would like to read a review of a 1st gen 4Runner w/turbo. I have searched this site to no avail. Any tips? Thanks :cheers:

Not looking for anything specific... A buddy of mine used to have a Turbo SR5 truck. I wanted the 4Runner but I was 22 and in college blah blah blah. I just wondered what the press said at the time, what kind of mileage they delivered etc.

Did they fair well in the long run or were they plagued with reliability issues?



I like the concept of turbos and smaller engines. If setup for torque/mid-range surprisingly good efficiency and power can be achieved. I know turbos are not ideal for rock crawling.

The biggest (and maybe only) problem was turbo life.
Most people took advantage of the HP and ran them hard, but didn't let them cool down properly afterwards.

Theer's several sites dedicated to the 22-RTE (or RET), might get more info on one of those.

Thanks, I Google'd the 22-RTE and there's some good stuff out there. Didn't find a "road test" but there's a good bit of info.
