85 EFI 4runner can't idle when cold

I just got it and replaced spark plugs, wires, distributor cap, rotor, all filters and fluids. Especially when it is cold I have to keep my foot on the gas otherwise it will die, usually 2-3 min will do the trick. When it warms up it is better but when I first start I still have to keep my foot on the gas for 30 seconds and then it is OK.
It almost sounds like the auto choke is not working but then, why is it doing it when it is warm too.

I checked the rpms when vehicle is hot and idling and they are around 1100. Also sometimes there is a little hesitation when stepping on the gas both when vehicle is warm and cold but especially when cold. NO check engine codes. I also did a fuel injector cleaning service at a shop. Any ideas are appreciated

first off your idle is too fast. clean the throttle body then use a low rpm tach to set the idle to 750 rpm. don't use the dash tach for tuning. your truck might be running lean with the idle set too high but that goes opposite to your discription. when you press the gas pedal you would lean it out more. might be the cold start injector, check the start injector time switch also it might be causing the cold start injector to fire randomly.

BTW, I was able to locate the cold injector - it is located on top of the Intake manifold screwed directly on top.

basicly you check the injector. if the injector is good, then the switch is bad. acording to my service manual, you need special tool #09843-30011. you disconect the wiring terminal and unbolt the injector from the manifold. you leave the fuel line attached. plug the tool into the injector and connect the other end to the battery. put the injector into a container. remove the rubber cap from the fuel pump check terminal, and short both terminals with a wire. turn the ignition switch to the "on" position, don't start the ingine. the injector should spray in a "v" pattern.

you can also use a scope to listen to the injector. it should buzz or hum when it works. it should only be humming when the engine is cold and shut off when it warms up.

To clean the throttle body remove the air intake hose and examine the intake and throttle body for excessive carbon build up if found then buy a can of throttle body cleaner labeled "safe on oxygen sensors,TPS's and catalytic converters" do not use carb cleaner make sure your engine is fully warmed up prior to using as when the throttle body is hot it dissolves the carbon easily and quickly.The labels usually specify to park the vehicle at ground level (0 degrees,no inclination) and have the engine running but I disagree I instead park the vehicle on a hill facing down and shut the engine off and hold a rag below the lip of the throttle body and poor the stuff and use a tooth brush.
Sea Foam makes the best engine cleaners out there.

1)buy a used one off e-bay
2)some Toyota dealerships may give you one or sell it for $10-20 (used) as most Toyota dealerships don't repair many old Toyotas and no longer need the service manual
3)some public libraries sell their old books as they are not in demand any longer
4)some free buy & sell classified papers,websites and bulletin boards may have some used ones for sale
5)some junk yards may have one laying around
6)some Toyota specialty garages may have one laying around and no longer use it as the vehicle may be too old and those mechanics probably have so much experience that they could publish their own factory service manual with corrections and "real world repair tips"
7)if someone has the FSM maybe they could scan all of the pages and post it on a site for all of us to download or view.
