87 Runner No Heat

Hello all,

I finally got my 4Runner going again this weekend. Total Motor Rebuild. So now that's new tranny (5 speed), new transfer case, new clutch, new rearend (dana), and now NEW MOTOR. Runs like a top now. My question is that, prior to the engine going there was no heat from what I understand. While the motor was out I checked all componentes of the cooling system and cannot find a problem. Radiator, heater core, valve mounted on fire wall (don't know what you call it) all pass fluid fine and there are no leaks. I'm hoping someone here has some insight on what might be the problem. Its gettin' kinda cold here in the midwest and soon i'm gonna be having some issues. Thanks in advance for whatever help anybody can offer.

Are you sure the valve and/or core are good ?

If hot coolant is definetly flowing thru the core and the fan works, you should have heat.

CHeck to make sure the Core isn't airlocked. I replaced a heatercore and the same thing happened...ended up having to "burp" the air out of it then it worked like a champ. Try squeezing the supply line of the heater core while the car is running while your rad cap is off or loose...if it is airlocked this should do the trick. watch out for hot hoses though.

got it fixed

Well finally got heat. Got a heater core ordered in and ripped the whole dash apart and come to find out that the flap that opens to let the air circulate through the core was broken and wouldn't open. Fixed that and the heat works great. Thanks for all yoru help.
