88 22re running problems

hello again everyone, I posted a thread a while back about my truck but have been unable to get back on here since.

My 22re was running very rough, overheating by a lot and hesitating through acceleration and at cruise. Just last night the truck would not accelerate unless I put the pedal all the way to the floor, which caused massive fuel consumption but barely any power(took me over a mile to reach 60mph) the plugs were replaced recently, along with alternator, fuel and air filter. I've checked out the wires visually, and they seem to be ok. I'm not really able to keep throwing money at this truck as it seems to be falling apart and its my daily. any help would be appreciated

Your problem could be a number of things. The common ones are the TPS and the AFM. You should download the service manual on the top of the forum and it will tell you how to test each of them. If you have a multimeter then you could narrow down the possibilities and find exactly what is broken.

alright I had a minute to mess with the AFM. so I disconnected the nbt and measured the resistance between the specified terminals
"E2-Vs" no reading
"E2-Vc" normal
"E2-Vb" normal
"E2-THA" no reading

I'm waiting for a second pair of hands to mess with the TPS, as it seems a bit difficult to take the readings and adjust the unit at the same time. Plus am I the only one to notice how difficult it is to insert the feeler gauge between the throttle stop screw and throttle lever? mine looks nothing like the diagram in my haynes manual, looks upside down and backwards.

Take off the throttle body when you do the TPS. It will be much easier and more accurate. Accuracy on that sensor is key because a couple degrees difference in the adjustment could mean it works or it doesn't.

I had the exact s.ame symptoms in my 22re, turned out a little moisture had snuck in under the distributor cap. Check it out

thanks, it does seem to run like complete garbage when there's either rain or snow on the ground- I found that if I drive it before it heats up it runs fine until it reaches temp then falls on its face. Unfortunately I just started a new job and this thing is getting put on the back burner.
