88 4Runner charging issue

Hi everybody. Long time member but haven't posted in ages.

I have an 88 Runner, v6, 5 speed. Recently the charge light came on and I lost my turn signals and most of my gauges. I suspected the alternator so I went ahead and threw a good used one in it. Still the same issue. All fuses checked out. At the three wire connector on the back of the alternator, with the engine running, the red and black wire is grounded, the yellow wire reads approximately 1 volt below battery voltage, and the white with green stripe reads battery voltage. If I jump the excite wire the alternator starts charging at 13.8v, however none of my gauges nor turn signals work. My Chiltons wiring diagram is a joke and is not descriptive whatsoever.. Has anyone had a similar problem or can anyone offer some insight? My multimeter and I are getting really tired of this!

Thank you, Jordan

...the red and black wire is grounded...

I believe that's the Ig wire. It should not be grounded. It should have 12V. On 22RE's that 12V comes from engine fuse. Checked your schematic to see where IG takes its power?

Ig wire? My schematic is not correct. I am going to go to Toyota today to see if I can get an accurate diagram. It definitely has a good ground. No resistance hardly. That would explain why the truck acts like it's running with the key in the acc. position. I imagine the gauges and turn signals get power from the engine fuse.

Thank you
