88 auto 4runner No Overdrive at High Speeds

Gona give this another shot. Been stuck with this issue for a while. The car is an 88 Auto 3.0 4Runner 4WD. The car idles great and drives great. My only problem is if I go faster than 60mph on the highway, the transmission kicks into 3rd gear and I lose overdrive. If I stay 60mph or slower I'm able to stay in overdrive.

-So no overdrive pass 60mph
-Have overdrive 60mph and under

Man I just got my 4runner, so I'm not the voice of experience, however from what I read the other day, the OD will only operate when the trans oil is up to temp. Symptoms seem backwards, but check that sensor and make sure its not flaking out on you. There is also the throttle valve cable to check and I believe a speed sensor plays into this too.

Could be the throttle cable as mentioned.
Could also be the engine just doesn't have enough power, maybe because it's close to 30 years old and worn out, or maybe the cat converter (also pushing 30) is clogged and strangling the engine.

Are you running big tires and haven't regeared? That will do it everytime.
