'88 Auto hubs

Hi, I am trying to replace my front wheel bearings. I have removed the six nuts on the automatic hubs and two of the "collet" type washers plus the center bolt inside the hub cover. Questions: Does the A.H. assembly (aluminum) come off as a unit? If so, I assume the "collet" washers are keeping it in place- Is there a good way to remove them?

Thanks,
Larry

If by "collet" you mean the cone washers, then all you need to do is whack the side of the hub with a hammer right next to the washer. It sounds rough, but those washers will shoot right out.

Thanks for the correct term of cone washers. I have tried some of the hammer technique and will try that again tomorrow. Will the hub come off then? I also removed the large "C" clip that is under the hub. Auto hub not budging.

Thanks,
Larry

If I remember correctly you remove the cone washers and the clip, then there's some torx screws underneath and a 54mm nut that needs to come off. Use the search function for the forum, you'll find instructions.
