Figured it's about time I posted this. If you've been on rockymountainextreme.com you've likely already seen this, but I know most of you probably don't go there.
I needed an inexpensive paint job for my runner. I looked online for quite a while and read a few write-ups, that I'll post if I can find them again. This paint job cost me less then $100. It's NOT a show room shine, or a trailer queen. It's an off-road rig, it's gonna get scratched. I didn't want to spend $400 plus on a paint job that will get scratched. First off. YES, I painted it YELLOW! for a couple of reasons. I kinda like yellow, rustoleum has a very limited selection of colors, and it's actually more yellow then I wanted it. should have been more orange. I mixed in a little red with it. I've got a few stages of the progression. The mix was about 50/50 with mineral spirits(about the consistency of milk) and rolled on with a foam roller. Waited about 8 hours between coats, it was about 10 total coats.
What I started with: It was 4 colors of spray can flat black, and didn't look much better clean.
The First Coat: yeah, it looked that bad.
Second Coat: a little better, but still needs major work
Third Coat: much better, but you can still see issues
After that the changes where pretty small and didn't show up much on photos
so this is finished
And of course I've gotta show you the new bumper that I got shortly after.
Tell me what you think. I painted the top gloss black (photos to come) it only took 2 or 3 coats. Some of the write-ups I've read before the people polished and waxed these paint jobs, I will try in the near future and tell you how it goes.
