'88 Won't go into fourth

Hey everyone. New here but a Toy lover for 6 years now, an '87 and now upgraded to an '88.
My problem is she won't shift into fourth but will easily shift into all other gears without any sign of a problem. Thoughts? Canadian dollars for those thoughts?
Any have tranny work done to repair one gear?

4th Gear

My 4runner won't shift into 4th gear until after about 10 minutes of driving when I first drive it in the morning then it's fine for the rest of the day.

My last 4runner was a manual and I'm not a big fan of automatics

I was thinking of changing the tranny fluid and going with synthetic. I don't know if the fluid has been changed yet and it has 222,000 kms.

Auto or manual ?

Sorry about that,,, she's a 5-speed manual shift.

I thought you had an auto like mine so my previous answer won't be much help.

It could be that the synchromesh on your 4th gear is worn out.
Have you tried "matching the RPM" to get it into fourth? If you've ever shifted a manual without using the clutch then you know what I mean. I think it's harder to do without grinding the gears when the synchromesh is worn out.

It may also be that the linkage from your shifter is out of adjustment.

It could be any number of things causing your problem. Is the shifter very sloppy? Is there any noise?
Where are you located, I know of a few transmissions for sale around the Toronto area.

There's no shifter linkage to adjust on the manual.

Most likely a synchro or something is worn.

You should be able to snag a used tranny off the net much, much cheaper than having yours fixed.
