Hi everyone, here's the deal:
We're on a trip and my buddy buys some engine oil and for storage sticks it underneath the hood in the top left corner, next to what appears to be the circuit opening relay and the ecu. Next time he fires it up the engine is running spotty: sputtering and major loss of power. It doesn't go away so we take it to the dealership and they say the 2nd cylinder is misfiring, they suggest replacing its injector--the thinking being that maybe some sort of contaminant got into it. They suggested that first we try some fuel injector cleaner. We bought their expensive heavy duty stuff and now have gone through a tank without any noticable difference. (Could another dose do the trick? It's got 286,000 miles and hasn't been treated with fuel injector cleaner). Just wondering if anyone has any ideas, especially anything that could explain why it started right after my buddy put the bottles of oil in to store--maybe he bumbed the ecu and threw off some wires in the ecu that regulate the fuel going to the 2nd cylinder? maybe that was a coincidence, but sort of hard to believe considering the suddenness of the change how well it was running beforehand. timing belt, and spark plugs are all fine. thanks thanks thanks.
